Nothing better than reconnecting with an old friend. @enricomastracchimanes and I met when we were in our early 20s just trying to figure out life. He went on to be a successful filmmaker and I went on to do all kinds of things I never dreamed possible back then. It’s pretty cool to think that there was a time when we had no idea what was ahead and that it would be so amazing! We tried to copy the same pose from the vintage photo of us on the beach. #80’s #santamonicacollege 🥰

Across my years working in the Democratic Republic of Congo, I have been drawn to moments of quiet strength. Not the kind that announces itself, but the kind that endures.

These photographs focus on women and girls who carry responsibility early and often invisibly. They hold water, children, families, and the weight of continuity itself. Their strength is not performative. It is practical, embodied, and constant.

I photograph slowly and with restraint, allowing space for presence rather than narrative. I am less interested in illustrating hardship than in observing what persists within it.

This series is not about survival as spectacle. It is about dignity as a daily practice.
