What’s behind that door? That was half the fun of Berwick Open Studios. Over two weekends, artists across the town opened up their studios, homes and gardens, giving us a glimpse into the places where creativity actually happens. There was brilliant work everywhere, but judging by what we heard all weekend, everyone also rather enjoyed the chance to have a good nosey behind usually closed doors. Turns out, we all rather like being invited into places we’d never normally get to wander into. We were there photographing the event and capturing all the fun, with Sarah and me covering the first weekend, and Stella stepping in to help Sarah on the second. Such a great couple of weekends, and the town had a real buzz about it. Follow Berwick Open Studios and keep an eye on their page for the final photographs.

A destination shop, no question. Everyone I've ever met is basically blown away by what Lucy does. She, and @weebluepress, (also very lovely work), will be taking part in @berwickopenstudios on 26th/27th and 3rd/4th October. They're at 16 Bridge Street in Berwick. Dont miss. Reel by me, in admiration. #paperartwork #tidekettlepaper #paperartist #berwickopenstudios #katievandyckfilmsandwebsites

Tidekettle was founded in 2018 to showcase the versatility of handmade paper as both a surface and a medium for creativity. They make paper for artists and makers, and take commissions. They feature the work of select local artists including Wee Blue Press, Penny Cuthbert and Trigger Press. They work with businesses, organisations and individuals to recycle their waste into new paper. They make art including letterpress printed cards, artists’ books and framed works. Current and recent projects include Our Wic with Lucy J. Wright and Create Berwick, The Present Page journalling workshops with Berwick Literary Festival and researching local plants for papermaking supported by Connecting Threads, as well as holding workshops at their inaugural Tweed River Festival. Berwick is buzzing with creativity! Tidekettle Paper is on the map as Venue 17 on Bridge Street; and will be open during both weekends of open studios. @tidekettle @lucypaperbax @weebluepress @createberwick Images by the artist and Pictorial Photography @pictorial.photography #tidekettlepaper #BerwickOpenStudios #createberwick

👑Six people have been selected as Berwick's new, everyday royalty. Our Wic is an exhibition and installation by artist Lucy Wright, inspired by our annual crowning of the Tweed Salmon Queen. The difference is, we're crowning six new kings and queens of Berwick - each representing an aspect of Berwick today. Can you guess who they are? Get your free tickets for the Our Wic exhibition via the link in our bio. #OurWic crowns by Suzanne Wright; Deborah Boyd Whyte (@dboydwhyte); Lucy Baxandall (@lucypaperbax) of @tidekettle Paper; Jennie Howes from Jennie’s Wool Studio; basket maker, Anna Corbett (@stringmakeranna); and David Purvis of @condottieriglass. ✨ The big surprise is finally here! ✨ Can you remember a post from last year about something very exciting happening for GarJar Bears and a post from a couple of months back about Bear and Ted E delivering our GarJar Bears mohair offcuts for something special?🧸📦 I am absolutely thrilled to finally announce that GarJar Bears has collaborated with a very talented local paper artist Lucy at Tidekettle Paper . She has worked her mastery to turn our mohair and cashmere offcuts into these stunning, handmade A4 paper sheets and shapes. Aren't they just wonderful✨ There is truly nothing like the feel of an ink pen on beautiful, textured handmade paper. Just like my GarJar Bears, every single sheet is unique and one-of-a-kind. I’m especially proud that GarJar Bears is now officially zero-waste—every scrap of fabric and thread is given a beautiful new life in this gorgeous handmade paper instead of going to waste. 🧸♻️ These are £3 per A4 sheet. They are the perfect keepsakes created from the very same fabrics as your bears! Just send me a message if you would like to include some with your next GarJar Bears delivery. Bear and Ted E had the best time visiting the Tidekettle Paper shop today—Ted E couldn't help showing off with a few handstands! If you’re ever in Berwick-upon-Tweed, you must visit this gorgeous shop on Bridge Street. I could spend all day there, it's a treasure trove of beautiful things ❤️ . . . @garjarbears @lucypaperbax
