Please join us for the Folio book release celebration of Tiger’s Mouth, Lucy Tan’s newest novel! Lucy will be in conversation with fellow author Kim Fu. Tickets are available at the link in our bio— we can’t wait to see you there!

As the oldest son of caterers from Queens, Jack Chen learned from an early age that to be afforded the same opportunities as the rich kids he studied on the subway, he had to act like one. When he finagles his way into a prestigious internship at tech giant K.O. Systems, he’s prepared to fake everything: his credentials, his confidence, even his entire past. What he isn’t prepared for is his officemate, Jack Owens, the depressed son of the company’s billionaire founder, who’s only there for a summer reprieve from his father’s scrutiny.

Their connection is immediate, if tenuous. Chen sees a version of the life he wants; Owens sees someone who recognizes the pain he’s been taught to hide. But as the summer unfolds and corporate pressures close in, familiarity breeds contempt, and the Jacks go from collaborators to competitors. In the following years, Chen and Owens hold a mirror to each other’s successes and failures, trying on each other’s lives for size. They circle like opponents in their favorite board game, Go—territorial, tactical, always one move away from collapse. But when Chen discovers disturbing logic within a new app’s design from K.O. Systems, he must contend with who he used to be, how far he’s come, and the friend he left behind.

Nostalgic, heart-wrenching, and propulsive, Tiger’s Mouth is a nuanced portrait of complex friendship, family dynamics, and love in its most unexpected forms.

#FollowFriday meets Get to know me

It’s been a while so I’m reintroducing myself. I joined #bookstagram a couple years ago and I am still loving the community of fellow book lovers. On any given day you can catch me taking scenic book pictures 📸, sipping matcha lattes 🍵 at my favorite cafes, and having cozy book chats🫶🏽💕. I read anything from historical fiction, non-fiction, contemporary stories, and I have recently become a thriller lover.

I am a yoga teacher 🧘🏽‍♀️, CPA 📈, and one heck of a mentor👩🏽‍💼!

Last night, fellow BTP member @beyondthepagesbc Annissa @annissabookishjoy and I headed up to Charlotte for not one, not two, but THREE author events! The first event was at Sip City @sipcityclt and was hosted by Mood Reader Books @moodreaderbooks . Author Anna McCallie @annamccallieauthor was in town from across the pond to share more about her debut novel, ABBY OFFSIDES. She was in conversation with local author Tracy Avery @tracyavery.books . I was SO EXCITED to finally meet Anna, as I read a #BTPtravelingARC of her book nearly a year ago! We even had a little Thousand Voices @thousandvoicesmedia moment as Anna joined us for a pic with the ARC of TIGER’S MOUTH (that has just started making the BTP rounds!) by her fellow Thousand Voices author, Lucy Tan @lucyrtan .
ABBY OFFSIDES is a laugh-out-loud romance full of heart that will have you cheering on the main character, and her favorite team, too! ⚽️⚽️⚽️

📚 ARC REVIEW | The Tiger's Mouth by Lucy Tan

Some books entertain. Others leave a lasting mark

The Tiger's Mouth is a beautifully written exploration of family, identity, and the secrets that quietly shape generations. Lucy Tan excels at creating complex characters whose lives are tangled by love, expectations, and unresolved history.

What I appreciated most was how the novel slowly peeled back layers of the family's past, revealing the emotional weight carried by each character. The writing is thoughtful and immersive, inviting readers to reflect on the relationships that define us.

Tan writes with incredible insight and compassion, creating characters who feel real long after you've closed the book.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
