– the raven boys 🐦‍⬛ rating: 3.5 stars It seems that once again I have fallen into the minority of readers because I don’t get the hype for this series quite yet. I say “yet” because I think this book left just enough intrigue for me to want to continue to get to the bottom of things. Overall, this was an okay read for me. I wasn’t overly attached to any of the raven boys nor the characters in general, but the mystery did pique my interest to a certain extent. My main issue is that the entirety of the first novel feels more like one big exposition than a completed story, so it’s tricky to rate when I feel like I’m constantly waiting for a bigger payoff. The intrigue was easily the strongest part. The glimpses of Welsh-inspired lore and the subtle magic system quietly pulled me in, leaving me with a lot of unanswered questions. I wouldn’t say I was wowed, but that final line specifically made me go, “Fine, I’ll read the next one.” In saying that, the build up is very slow. I felt like I was constantly waiting for something interesting to happen and ended up bored for a large proportion of the book. I was craving answers and needed more urgency, but the mystery kept being dragged out. I think I expected something on a much grander scale, but this felt more vibey and lower stakes. I did like the themes of wealth and how status affects perception, particularly the strained dynamics between Adam and Gansey. Adam was the standout and most relatable for me as someone who despises privilege. While I wouldn’t rush to gush about the boys, they did warm up to me by the end. I feel bad for Gansey, who tries to be decent despite his status but says the wrong things, Noah, for reasons I can’t disclose, and Ronan, who hides a softer heart. I’m very intrigued to see where things go with Adam and Ronan. As for the romance between Blue and Gansey, unfortunately I was very disconnected. Despite the premise of Blue’s curse, I didn’t feel the chemistry between them whatsoever as it felt super insta lovey, but I hope it expands in the sequels. All in all, The Raven Cycle feels like a trust the process series. I do see the potential and I will be continuing.

It’s really fastpaced and also entertaining which makes it a pretty easy read. Honestly, it keeps you very engaged thfouhtout the whole book and it’s very hard to put down bc you keep wanting to see what’s about to come up next. I really love these kind of books. It didn’t get a higher rating bc despite having all these great attributes, it is not a book I would neither recommend off the top of my head nor consier my fav book. I like it but just not at a crazy extent. Also, I’m so confused over who I like, I’m almost as confused as Cassie herself Do you usually like the main or the second lead in tv shows and movies
