“This one feels like it’s for everyone.”

Those were the words of @luke_strong2 after the trampoline gymnast became British champion for the sixth time – a remarkable achievement that completed one of the most inspiring comeback stories in British sport.

A world and European medallist, Luke has enjoyed an extraordinary career in trampoline gymnastics. But his latest British title, won fifteen years after he first claimed the championship as a seventeen-year-old, means more than another medal.

After multiple surgeries and significant physical and mental health challenges, Luke faced some of the toughest moments of his sporting career. At times, the obstacles in his path left him questioning whether continuing in the sport was worth it.

To return to competition was an achievement in itself. To become British champion again was something truly special - and now, Luke is off to the World Championships!

Luke joins us to a talk about his inspiring return to elite gymnastics, the setbacks he has overcome, the determination it took to reach the top of British trampoline gymnastics once again - and continuing to represent authentically for the LGBTQ+ community.

Because sometimes, sporting fairytales really do come true.

For a long time, it looked highly unlikely that Luke Strong would achieve his childhood ambition of becoming the trampoline gymnast with the most British men’s titles.

However, not only has he now secured that goal with a sixth victory at nationals at the age of 32, but he’s also been selected to represent his country at next month’s World Championships.

It’s no exaggeration to say that @luke_strong2 has been through injury hell during his career, so he’s as astounded as anyone by his return to international competition after a seven-year absence.

“To make the team feels like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders,” Strong tells Outsports. ”But at the same time, it’s also come as a huge shock.”

🏆 2026 British Championships | Medal Tables 🇬🇧

What a weekend! 213 medals were won across the British Championships and National Age Groups, with 60 clubs reaching the podium.

I’m baaaackkkkk 👀🤩
After experiencing one of the best summers of my life on the @takethat circus tour, I returned to the competition floor this weekend. The tour reminded me of how much I love my sport and how much throwing in the towel wasn’t an option. There was a lot of pressure surrounding this competition & a lot at stake and I’d like to think I did little me very proud no matter what happens🫂 a lot of battles were fought inside and outside the sport but I’m grateful for every single one.

Thank you to all my @liverpooltga family & thank you to all my soulmates in this post love you for life. The journey isn’t over yet baby. Roll on germany in a couple of weeks x

BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIPS 2026

A bit of a bitter sweet time at the British this year💫

On day one of the competition I placed second in the senior men’s category. I am fairly happy with my score and the development I’ve shown since the start of this season. As this is my first year back to competition, I’m really proud of the progress I’ve made so far and I’m excited for how far I can push myself and chase my pre injury standards. I was also awarded the Paul Luxon award for the highest execution score in the senior groups which definitely gave me a boost knowing I’ve still got it all in there somewhere🤣

Day two of the competition didn’t go as well where I didn’t complete my routine and didn’t qualify for the finals later on. Although this hurts, I am still trying to focus on all of the positive steps forwards I have made this year and the psychological shift I’ve had in my mindset!

2027 let’s go …
