finally hit @lulacafe in chicago with michelle during my weekend home 🤩🤩 we ordered the french toast with farm peaches, oat crumble, sweet corn, and vanilla crème fraîche (9/10), which was surprisingly my favorite of the two. the mix of sweet peaches, crunchy oat crumble, and creamy vanilla crème fraîche reminded me of a pie. also appreciated the more unique take on french toast. we also got the classic lula breakfast burrito (8.5/10), filled with soft scrambled eggs, avocado, tomato, potato, cheddar, and green chile soffritto. off the bat, thought it was incredibly flavorful. also loved the play on textures, with a crispy exterior contrasted by soft eggs and a nice pull from the cheese. while very delicious, it did get a bit too dense after eating half. lula felt like a very charming neighborhood spot. i loved how cozy and lively it felt. fantastic brunch option and definitely worth a visit! #chicagoeats #food #foodstagram #foodie #fyp

The perfect Sunday? Brunch at @lulacafe during the Logan Square farmers market. 🍳 Arrived right before they opened so the wait wasn’t bad at all. the breakfast burrito is a must, really soft scrambled eggs and great salsa. I recommend some hot sauce. Hash browns were extra crispy (which is the only way they should be). The seasonal French toast—a peach version at the time—genuinely converted me. I’m not usually a French toast person. 📍 Logan Square

Grano Features 09: Lula Cafe - Logan Square's long-running, market-driven cafe. Lula Cafe is an independent cafe at 2537 N Kedzie Blvd in Logan Square. Its cooking is inventive, market-driven and mostly organic, served in a casual room with an especially popular brunch. Lula's own Community page names the farms and producers it works with. It's open Wednesday through Monday and closed Tuesdays. A neighborhood cafe that keeps the farmers market on the plate is local food infrastructure. They're on Grano as a Chicago restaurant. Since opening in Logan Square in 1999, Lula Cafe has grown from a tiny neighborhood spot into one of Chicago’s most beloved restaurants. The menu changes with the seasons, but the cozy and thoughtful approach to cooking stays the same. At brunch, you might find the legendary Royale breakfast sandwich, a loaded Lula Breakfast Burrito, or a plate of house pastries worth saving room for. If you want to come in for dinner, the menu gets a little more intricate, with rotating pastas, vegetables, and seafood.  Fun Fact: Lula recently teamed up with our October Special Edition collaborator, @pierceabernathy, for a dinner inspired by his cookbook. VI(Pieces): They plate their chickpea frites, rigatoni, and coal roasted eggplant in our Pasta Bowls. 📍 2537 N Kedzie Blvd., Chicago, IL 60647 📸 by @lulacafe and @andrewholladay

L. Soirée: “Come Paint With Me” w/ Leslie Baum & Friends
Saturday, November 7th | 6-9pm  $95/person – Ticket includes dinner by the @lulacafe team
3057 W Logan Blvd

_________

L. Soirée is an intimate, salon-style evening at LOULOU, curated by @atshilds, co-owner of @lulacafe, where performance, stories, and conversation unfold around a communal meal. Each evening begins with an invitation to a featured artist, who then invites collaborators of their choosing, and the audience becomes part of the evening too. As Amalea puts it, “the space becomes the people inside of it.” This month’s artist, Leslie Baum (@lepchamina), has her own version of this. It starts with four words: “Come paint with me.” She asks friends, colleagues, peers, and a few near-strangers. She arrives with paints, paper, and a table to share, and together they find a spot outdoors and paint side by side. Since 2017, that’s added up to 230 painting dates. Her Plein Air Project is about building relationships. Sitting close, talking, and looking hard at the world around you opens people up. For Leslie, the dates have grown into new friendships, deepened old ones, and changed the direction of her own painting. She’s joined by Emily Lanctot (@emily_lanctot), Melissa Oresky (@moooooooooosky), and Eve Fineman (@evefineman), who have each painted with her over the years. Together they’ll talk about what happens when you paint outside and alongside someone else, and what stays with you afterward, with photographs, portraits, and work from the project. Then we sit down to dinner together. Leslie will also set up a casual watercolor station, with paints, brushes, paper, and a card of prompts, so anyone who’d like can join the project for a few minutes.
