⚡👯🫠 I've now had time to fully process the past week spent in Naarm (Melbourne) hosting workshops for an incredible group of artists(/ people coming to terms with calling themselves artists 😉) in surface techniques to working on flat glass. Effectively, that just means sandblasting, filing, engraving, a lilllll bit of painting and silver staining!

Times are tough and it's a huge deal when people choose to invest their time, and their money, on themselves and progressing their craft and indulging in something they love with purpose. I consider it a really big honour to have been a small part of that! Sharing these techniques, SO MANY, over only TWO DAYS was massive and it's the first time I've ever conducted workshops in any of these skills so doing it all at once, to groups of eight- was overwhelming and exciting, made me slightly manic but very, very happy.

These really are all techniques I love so much, and had to travel far and wide to learn, as the landscape of stained glass in Australia was much different then to what it is now. It felt so good to be able to share so much. Big ups to @rachelphillipsglass and @judithschaechter who were pivotal in my understanding of these processes and whom I referenced about 10373738 times over the week.

Big thank yous to the organisation of @glaasinc to get me over there (Donna, you're a super star), the T.As @jordanb_art and @gugumah_ , @perthartglass who were so helpful in getting materials prepped for me on the west coast to boost over with me to the east coast, @bethanyhwheeler who ended up doing a fair bit of admin and organising (and invited me to hang out with the Vis arts students for the day!) and the talented students who all had so many great ideas, inspirations, motivations, patience and talent.

It was a pleasure to be a guest on the land of the Boon Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation, and I am now back "home" Walyalup (Fremantle) for a couple of days before hauling myself back to "home" Belgium. I will probably be ducking off Instagram again once at that point. But I look forward to doing more of these workshops, in different places in world, for years to come.💚 HG XO
