Meet Lucia Diaz, marine biologist, sunshine-seeking, happy being, yoga doing, hug giving, ocean-loving, travel enthusiast currently finishing her MSc in the IMBRSea program and to top it all off a Cyan Planet Ambassador! 🌊💙

"I have been in contact with the ocean since I was a child, swimming, snorkelling, surfing and later in life, diving. This has enabled me to get closer to it, to understand many aspects related to its power and fragility and, what is more, to develop a passion that has resulted in a desire to truly study it.

Growing up I got the opportunity to live in Mexico, where I first saw and swam with wild fish, turtles, jellyfish, and so on. The second one was visiting the natural water park of Xel- Ha. That is where I first swam with dolphins, rays and sharks, and knew I did not want it to stop there. I discovered I wanted to protect these species. Furthermore, I understood that they did not belong there, but to the wild ocean. Later, while at school, my favourite subject was science, which fascinated me. However, it was not until 10th grade that I developed my true love for Biology. Nevertheless, I knew that sooner or later I would want to specialize in the marine world. This indeed came to happen and I am now working on my Master’s thesis, focused on the diet and microbiome of green turtles from Guinea Bissau. Apart from my love for the ocean and passion to protect it, I am passionate about yoga and photography and I love travelling and spending time outdoors adventuring. I am a very curious person and I am super excited and keen to learn as much as I can and help in projects that make this world a better place.

I am excited to be a Cyan Planet Ambassador Cyan Planet is creating a reality adapted to the current world to conserve the oceans in a new immersive and accessible way, that I really think is going to make a difference in the world of conservation science and bring humans back to love our most precious treasure: THE OCEAN."
