PCT Day 114 ~ 22.5 miles | Shelter Cove
📍 mile 1903.9- 1926.6

I got an early start eager to make it to Shelter Cove for breakfast. When I arrived, a group of hikers were already sitting out front at a picnic table waiting for the kitchen to open. I saw some familiar faces and made some new friends as we chatted over coffee and french toast.
I resupplied from the small general store and charged up my power banks in the hiker hangout area.
After a double breakfast of French toast and a breakfast burrito, I was back on trail!
The trail coming out of shelter cove was stunning with some of more beautiful clear blue lakes I’ve ever seen! Now this is the Oregon I was expecting! The first half of Oregon felt like more NorCal - hot, exposed, dry, and lots of blow downs.
I ended the day by a lake where I had oatmeal for dinner followed by a special dessert of Coconut Tres Leches from @luxeflybasecamp 😋 Everything I have tried from them has been absolutely fantastic and I truly cannot recommend their backpacking meals enough!

PCT Day 112 ~ 30 miles | Mt. Thielsen Wilderness
📍 Mile 1841.2-1871.2

I woke up feeling more tired than usual and allowed myself an extra 30 minutes of sleep before packing up and hitting the trail.
It was a chilly morning and the trail started out mostly smooth and flat. I had breakfast in the sun while listening to The Prodigal Summer audiobook, a recommendation from a writer friend I made on trail (ily Shrimp Guts! 🍤)
I was prepared for the long water carry today, a little over 15 miles, but halfway through I came to an unexpected water cache.
If I had known about the cache I could have carried less water but that’s what I get for not reading all the way points on FarOut the night before like I usually do.
The highlight of the day was entering the Mt. Thielsen Wilderness which was absolutely stunning! ⛰️ And I reached the highest point on the PCT in Oregon/Washington at 7,650 feet (which feels like nothing compared to the Sierra!)
I ended the day with a new backpacking meal and it was instantly one of my new favorite meals of the trail! The @luxeflybasecamp Huevos Rancheros are out of this world!!! 🍳 🌶️ 🥑

Backpacking the Boundary Waters: experiencing the United States’ most visited federally designated Wilderness area in a unique way. Day two of our trip… 🥾

We entered the Wilderness via the roughly 15 mile primitive Angleworm Trail which begins at a trailhead off of the Echo Trail. This lollipop shaped trail traverses a primitive route that circumnavigates Angleworm, Home and Whisky Jack lakes.

Though a good portion of the trail was easy to follow, the northern portion of the loop was heavily impacted by blowdown - though partially cleared likely during suppression operations on the Thumb Fire this summer.

We eventually made it to camp for the night, made a filling and nutritious dinner (thanks @luxeflybasecamp!) and settled in. We planned on finishing the trail the following day.

If you’re interested in the Boundary Waters and their continued protection for future generations, I highly recommend giving @savethebwca a follow!

A note on dogs in the Wilderness (special rules apply here): dogs must be on a 6’ or shorter leash in all developed areas including campsites, trails, portages, etc. They are not required on leash in the water or canoes. Waste must be disposed of in latrines or buried 200’ away from water sources, campsites, trails and portages. Dog noise must be limited.

*You will see Gus off leash for a short section of blowdown on the primitive trail (or possibly fire containment line? I’m not even sure that was the actual trail based on maps). This was for my own safety as I navigated numerous downed trees and sections of trail destroyed during the storm. In some short sections it was safer for the both of us to not be physically connected. He was put back on leash as soon as we were out of the section.

PCT Day 111 ~ 24 miles | Crater Lake National Park
📍 Mile 1817-1841

It was a dewy morning and I woke up excited for the day because today I get to check another national park off my bucket list!
I made it to Annie’s Cafe in Mazama Village for breakfast which of course included a cinnamon roll, but not just any cinnamon roll, it was a huckleberry and caramel cinnamon roll! Then I walked across the parking lot to pick up my resupply package at the general store. While I waited for my power banks to charge, I checked the watch duty app to monitor the complex fire up ahead and it’s looking pretty dismal.
Then it was time to blue blaze my way to the lake! Only I took a wrong turn and ended up going 1.8 miles on the wrong trail and had to backtrack.
I got back on track and made my way to the rim of crater lake. I audibly gasped I saw how blue the water was, the photos truly cannot do it justice. It’s a shade of blue that you have to see with your own eyes.
I walked the rim trail around the lake, admiring wizard island as I circumnavigated it. I stopped for a break just before the trail broke off from the rim to get one last view before finding camp for the night.

Five friends set out to ride and scout the @sierra_camino
a segment of the @orogenesiscollective trail, the longest mountain bike trail on the planet at around 5000 miles.
Orogenesis is the brainchild of Oregon Timber Trail creator @GabrielAmadeus

The Sierra Camino is the section that covers the zone from the Sierra foothills in Downieville, CA traveling all the way down to Mammoth Lakes, CA. It’s rough and raw and rugged from start to finish.

They rode the segment from Incline Village to Mammoth Lakes and covered 240 Miles over 6 days with 26,000 feet of climbing. 🤩 WOW

PCT Days 106 & 107 ~ Zero days
📍 Ashland, Oregon

Town dayyyy!!! 🙌
and what a lovely town it is!

I had a double breakfast, first the free hotel breakfast, then a breakfast with my friends who just rolled into town!
I went for walks around the neighborhood to see what was around, and discovered some great places to eat and enjoy a beer.
I went resupply shopping at Safeway, and of course got some drinks and snacks for the hotel room.
I received a couple packages of freeze dried meals to try from @luxeflybasecamp and @poeandco
I split the loot and prepared a box to ship ahead on trail.

I love ashland! It’s definitely up there on my list of favorite trail towns on the PCT
