Thrilled to share my contribution to @luxthemagazine, a dive into Madrid’s vibrant art scene and the fantastic artists, collectors, and curators shaping its cultural landscape.

Growing up in the art world taught me early on that collecting is about so much more than acquiring works of art. It’s about curiosity, the thrill of discovery, and the wonderful relationships we build along the way.

Through my work at @artnet, I see how market intelligence, data, and global networks increasingly inform the decisions of today’s collectors. Yet the most compelling collections are also driven by knowledge, passion, and a genuine spirit of discovery.

Spain holds a particularly fascinating position at the crossroads of Europe and Latin America, bringing together the best of both worlds. Madrid, in particular, offers a unique combination of artistic energy, cultural richness, elegance, and authenticity that continues to attract an increasingly international community of collectors.

▶️▶️▶️ A real honour to share my interview in the latest Winter issue of @luxthemagazine with Joseph Kosuth @josephkosuthstudio , one of the pioneering figures of conceptual art, an artist who made language itself a medium of inquiry.

Sixty years after ‘One and Three Chairs’, his inquiry remains both exacting and unresolved: how is meaning produced, and what allows something to function as art?

“When I work with a text, I am interested in what it makes possible rather than what it says.” That distinction runs through our conversation: language as an active material, context as constitutive of the work, and philosophy as a practice of questioning rather than an authority to invoke.

For Kosuth, art’s intellectual force lies in making visible the assumptions through which we understand it - and the world.

His critique of spectacle, markets and identity as forms of consumption raises a pointed question: what happens to art’s critical capacity when its gestures become commodities? Institutional recognition offers no guarantee of intellectual vitality; each historical moment demands new ways of asking difficult questions. Even a familiar work becomes newly unsettled by the assumptions each generation brings to it.

In an age when AI can generate language with extraordinary fluency, Kosuth’s insistence on the difference between producing sentences and creating critical contexts feels especially consequential. What matters is what a work enables us to question, including the apparent certainty of our own knowledge. Nor does such rigour exclude feeling: the recognition that an assumption has shifted can itself be profoundly moving.

We’re thrilled to announce a new partnership with Cambridge!

Editors, writers, poets and artists from Cambridge will be contributing to the ORB, beginning with our Spring 2027 edition, launching in January.

It’s the first collaboration of its kind between the two universities, and we can’t wait to share what’s to come.

The Winter 2026 issue of the Oxford Review of Books brings together a vibrant mix of essays, on-the-ground journalism, opinion pieces, travel writing, and more.

Iain McGilchrist, Arch Hades, and Asma Khan join us in conversation, while Martha Nussbaum, Sylvia Plath, and Ted Hughes are among those reviewed. We hope this issue offers a sincere and thoughtful read — the purpose of the ORB is not to tell you what to think, but to offer things worth thinking about.

If hospitality wants to participate in the art world, what can we actually contribute?

With @patinahotels, we wanted to extend our relationship with artists beyond displaying and acquiring work — using what hospitality uniquely has: space, place, access and an audience, to create the conditions for an artist’s practice to evolve.

Art is deeply subjective, so integrity had to be built into the process. The Patina Art Residency is nomination-led, with artists recommended by respected voices in the art world and considered by an extraordinary jury that brings informed perspectives, meaningful visibility and access.

Our hotels then become a place to deepen that practice, with sustainability at the heart of the residency. At @patinamaldives, 2025 winner Shezad Dawood deepens his relationship with ocean conservation alongside our on-site marine biologist. At @patinaosaka, our 2026 winner (to be announced later this month 👀) will explore our relationship with the natural world through the changing seasons. As Patina grows, so does the context artists can immerse themselves in.

It also gives us a considered way to grow the Patina collection through serious industry insight — part of what we believe modern patronage in hospitality can be: supporting artistic development while building a collection with depth and meaning.

But what matters most is what happens beyond the residency. Does something discovered here become the beginning of a new body of work? Does the access and exchange influence where an artist’s practice goes next? And over time, what does this collective history of artists, ideas and works become?

A huge thank you to our partners at @LUXTheMagazine and to our jury for sharing their expertise and, more importantly, their passion for creating space and visibility for artists and championing platforms like ours.

My hope is that ten years from now, we can look back at the artists we had the privilege of supporting and see where the ideas that found space here have taken them. To me, that would be the most meaningful measure of all ❤️

Last night Richard Mille in collaboration with LUX Magazine inaugurated a new type of talks in their beautiful new Monaco premises. Each time a collector will lend for a period of two months an art work from their personal collection to Richard Mille. On the day of the unveiling they will speak about the particular work. Yesterday Darius Sanai (3), owner of LUX and initiator of the project, conducted the talk with me. This gave me the chance to lend the 2013 Antony Gormley sculpture (1/2/3/4/5) and speak about my immense admiration for the artist @richardmille @luxthemagazine @kamera_obscure
