The past four years have absolutely flown by, but at the same time they have been my most foundational years. The past two years, specifically, have been the best time of my life. Since fourth grade, I have wanted to come to UCLA (mainly to be closer to the Dodgers). That certainly paid off, as I got to live in Los Angeles during back to back World Series wins. I went to both parades and saw the best game of my life when I went to NLCS Game 6 in 2024, which sent them to the World Series.

However, UCLA became much more to me than just a spot closer to Dodger Stadium. For more than 3 years, I worked at the busiest coffee shop on campus, Kerckhoff Coffeehouse. When I initially got that job to make some spare cash, I had no idea what I would gain from it. Some of my coworkers became lifelong friends, but I found something even greater there. I met the absolute girl of my dreams working with @lycheelia . Nathalia, you have made me feel emotions I didn’t know were possible and given me memories I will cherish for the rest of my life, and I can’t wait to make more with you! ❤️🫶

I also had the unique experience of going to college with both of my brothers @jakobe2112 and @kobegeyer at separate times. Exploring LA, going to Dodgers games, and partying with you guys was so fun. I also got to go to UCLA with my best friend who I have known since kindergarten @gabe_sanchez__ Whether we were trolling @madaleemaj2004 or turning up at the Uzi concert, our time here was awesome.

I also had the honor of doing research on schizophrenia. Since watching Mindhunter in high school, I have been fascinated with psychology and to be able to take part in impactful research has been incredibly rewarding. S/O to all of my fellow lab members and thank you to @kaiasargent for your guidance and inspiration.

I am both excited and stressed about what is next, but no matter what, I know I will have the support of my amazing parents @john.geyer_ and @angela.l.geyer and all of my friends and family. Thank you to everything and everyone that made my college experience so great.

At the screening of “Langit Lupa,” held at 2220 Arts + Cultures on 11/10, Filipinx organizations the Malaya Movement and Gabriela Los Angeles tabled at the venue’s lobby, providing information about current campaigns such as rejecting the PERA (Philippines Enhanced Resilience Act).

Following the screening, directors Enzo Camacho and Amy Lien, Professors Lucy Burns, Josen Masangkay-Diaz, and Joy Sales discussed the ongoing conditions surrounding the Escalante Massacre, martial law as a form of rule, Filipino Migrants in 1930s California, fascism, and labor activism.

The event captivated injustices in areas of the Philippines through art, and the added presentations brought additional perspectives that shared the continuing impact of this dark history. The weekend program was part of Camacho’s and Lien’s artist residency with Active Cultures, a public arts nonprofit in Los Angeles that explores the intersection of art, food, and ecologies through artist-led projects and programs. UCLA students in Professor Lucy Burns’s course, “The Philippines and its Elsewheres,” provided documentation support for the screening and symposium.
