NET INCOME

When most people hear the words net income, they think about money. They think about salaries, business profits, or the amount that remains after expenses have been paid. For this woman, however, net income begins with a fishing net.

Every fish inside that net represents something waiting at home. It could mean school fees, rent, food on the table, transport fare, or simply making it through another day. She doesn't carry the net because she wants to; she carries it because it is her livelihood. Without it, there is no business. Without the business, there is no income.

That is why she stands inside the net in this photograph. The net is no longer just a tool. It has become part of her life. It follows her every day because her future, and the future of those who depend on her, is tied to what it can bring.

The title "Net Income" is a play on words, but it also reflects the reality many Kenyans face today. As the cost of living continues to rise, earning an honest living has become more difficult. Many people are working longer hours than ever before, yet what they take home seems to stretch less and less. Before the money is even earned, it already has a purpose.

This photograph is about more than selling fish. It is about seeing the people behind the work. It is about recognising the quiet stories we pass every day without stopping to notice. Sometimes the strongest stories are not found in big events, but in ordinary moments that reflect the lives of millions.

At Spartan Photography Kenya, this is the kind of storytelling we believe in. We don't simply create beautiful photographs—we create images that make people stop, think, ask questions, and connect with the people behind the story. We work with organisations, businesses, NGOs, and brands to turn everyday moments into meaningful visual stories that inspire conversation, strengthen campaigns, and help audiences understand the real impact of the work being done.

Whether it's through conceptual photography, documentaries, impact films, interviews, or visual campaigns, our goal is always the same: to create stories that people don't just look at—they remember.
