i turned 40 yesterday and ran 40km with @morgazoid to celebrate entering my 4th decade of life and to honor my body and mind and all the great things they are capable of.

this year, i’m incredibly grateful for the community of friends i’ve built over my lifetime across all the places i’ve lived and especially here in atlanta.

i’m proud of myself for getting through the past year and a half and accomplishing a lot while managing life’s challenges and these economic times.

entering into this new chapter with more joy (joymaxxing?!!!), un-hurriedness, more love and kindness, and a continued awe for the natural world 💖

2025 Year In Review ✨

Mars and I have not adventured together in a long time. It’s been so long , I’d forgotten all the outdoor lush experiences I’ve ensured he has had. Anywho, we decide to do a little paddle packing trip w the @georgia_river_network on the infamous Okeefenokee Swap in south east Ga. Long pause bc the Okeefenokee has been on my lil list for a few years now and per usual I ain’t have no plan on how I’d get to it, but I got to it. What a treat we were in for bc the homie @dev_rox was also going and invited us in to hang w her ppl dem. Them ppl now my ppl and I am grateful.

Anywho, this Mars and Mom adventure was also one of the small adventures I was doing to celebrate @blackfreedomoutfitters turning 10yrs old. I’ve kayaked and such but not frfr. As @simone_outdoors put it, I cld get myself from one point to the next but I wasn’t truly kayaking. my skill game leveled up bc I got a lil lessons from @the_roads_les_traveled, but the kid needs a lot of practice. Mars took to it very easily with skill and grace. The kid showed up and took on his share of leadership, which made me proud, per usual he was impressive.

The wetlands are unmatched. I’m not a fan of the alligators but they mind they business, the birds were singing and soaring, the trees were swaying giants, the water calm, the laughs loud, the sunsets muah and the peace priceless.

“The Okefenokee Swamp is a shallow, 438,000-acre peat-filled wetland straddling the Georgia–Florida line. A majority of the swamp is protected by the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge and the Okefenokee Wilderness. The Okefenokee Swamp is considered to be one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Georgia and is the largest blackwater swamp in North America”- the internet.

The swamp was a “safe” haven for our enslaved ancestors bc you know who wasn’t going into the swap, yup, them slave owners. So Black folk took refuge there and this enhanced our relationship to the swamp and nature on a whole. From 1937-1941 An all Black unit of the Civilian Conservation Corps built the trails and infrastructure in the swamp that are still used today.

Grateful for this. To the crew thank you for welcoming us in. Truly honored to know yall.
