Last weekend we were proud to be the prize sponsor for the @great_northern_events Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair Awards ✨. Having attended and discovered many fantastic designer-makers at the fair over recent years, it was great to be able to present the Retail Showcase Award 🏆 to a very deserving and talented winner … @lynseywalters 👏.

The award will offer Lynsey the chance to work with our buying team to create a bespoke collection for us to accompany a forthcoming exhibition @whitworthart. We are really looking forward to collaborating with her and excited to see what beautiful products she will bring to the @thewhitworthshop shelves 🙌!

After a few days of (vital!) post-show decompression, high time to say a massive thanks for EVERYTHING - Great Northern Contemporary Art & Craft Fair, Manchester 🙏🥳

It was a bumper weekend and I had an absolute blast across the whole four days 😂🥳

Special thanks go to @annmariegnccf and @vpscholes and the whole @great_northern_events team - both visible and invisible. These events are only made possible via an indefatigable core team and an entire village of volunteers too ❤️🙏

Endless gratitude to Mr R @thatwoodworksteve for the chauffeuring, haulage services, stand backdrops and set up, for endless gophering, evening hot dinners, Edgy Bag modelling, and well, your indefatigable support always ❤️🙏

To my neighbours - @andrewsceramics1 @lynseywalters @emmamonster and our entire ‘street’ - you LEGENDS! Same time/place next year? 🤞🤞

Hannah @polished_grey_jewellery - you do realise we are best friends for life now? 💛And Sophia - so lovely to meet you @function_and_form for a soirée too. Let’s all be housemates again soon?

…and @nicstaceceramics WHOLE range of ceramics and every exquisite ring from the @heatherrajaratnam_jewellery (no photos 😬)

…still daydreaming about the red horse plate from @deebarnesdesigns and every @karent.co.uk portrait…

…and was utterly transfixed by the miniature world of @sjbmixedmediaartist and captivated by @utterly_polly lino prints 😮

Meanwhile, I’ll take @alandawilson_ceramics entire range and will be dreaming about the fine designs and delicious golden-rimmed creations from @lizblyth_designs

More makers to get excited about coming to @makejoylondon !

@jeanettesloan is a hand knit designer with a love of embellishment, celebrated through the beaded colourwork technique. Add a couture aesthetic to your crafting with her latest book, Beaded Colourwork: A Modern Approach To Knitting. Published by Laine Publishing it’s a collection of seventeen garment and accessory designs, each photographed in Laine’s iconic, laid back style. Jeanette will be bringing all the designs from the book to this year’s Make Joy, along with a selection of printed patterns and my new range of carefully curated, and beautifully packaged starter kits for those who want to bring some beaded joy to their knitting.

@lynseywalters creates wool felt jewellery and hair accessories using a combination of handmade and industrial wool felt. There are not many people doing this in a contemporary, design led way and Lynsey's work is sharper and cleaner than you would expect when you think of ‘felt jewellery’. Be sure to check out Lynsey's sheep, googly eyes and lobster brooches - they're fan favourites!

@mahliqajewellery specialises in hand knitted and hand crocheted jewellery using a mixed media of precious metals, wire, hand-dyed silks, gemstones and swarovski crystals.
Suraya Hossain is the designer and creator behind Mahliqa. She is inspired by her South Asian heritage which draws on the lavish historical Mughal jewellery created in India and Persia in past centuries. She uses the techniques of knit and crochet to recreate those designs in her jewellery pieces. Suraya also produces elegant crochet and knitwear patterns for shawls and accessories. Many of these patterns incorporate the swarovski crystal beads that she likes to use in her jewellery making.

@mamieandflorrie is passionate about offering quality fibres and unusual textures; from boucle and slub yarns in varying weights to delicate silk mohair and alpaca yarns. Owner Amy dyes these stunning fibres in bright and inspiring colours, for makers to love every minute of their project!

My small haul from @yarndale … maybe I should call it my smaul … anyway, barely functioning today but wanted to share these before I unpack the rest of the van and promptly lose them.

If you don’t already, I insist you go follow @lynseywalters: her jewellery is joyful, beautifully made … and looks equally amazing on a frock as it does thick knits and denim! I could not resist the pea pod!

Always dangerous being situated across from fine products… and I gave in, literally at the last minute, for a kit (the letter J) from @abigailrosecreative. If you like books and stitching, then she’s the girl for you.

And finally a mandala hoop. “But Julie, you can only crochet tiny squares… you’ll never manage a mandala…” I hear you cry. Well, it’s not for crochet but something else I’ve been planning to made for a year or so (I like to take my time) … I’m honestly hopefully going to take some time off and this is on the list to do … any guesses?

🌺 READ KAHLO-BOUT IT! 🌺

It has been a wild summer at Judith Glue, with lots of exciting things going on behind the scenes -

We are thrilled to share that we are to be featured on @monfornothing after acquiring a stunning, upcycled vintage trunk, influenced by the artistic folk-style of famed Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo!
Special thanks to the team at #MoneyForNothing for featuring us, especially Rory for making Laura and Morag feel relaxed for their camera debut. ❤️

For those who may not know, Judith, Jane and Laura are all HUGE Frida fans, admiring her determination, strength and passion, which is beautifully reflected in her work. We are delighted to showcase this in our front window (as part of a dedicated Frida shrine) to brighten-up Bridge Street as the summer sun mellows into earlier autumnal dusks.
The addition of the trunk, retailing at £650, has already caught many eyes in the passing, so feel Fri-da come along and see it for yourself, along with the rest of our gorgeous window display. 😍

Further inspired by Frida, our very own @janeglueartist has created an homage to Kahlo's work in her own personal style, which are available in two sizes in-store, and from Jane herself directly. 🧑‍🎨

✨ We will keep everybody posted regarding dates and times of the episode airing, plus further BTS information in the meantime! ✨

(Laura and Morag may or may not also be open to signing autographs - we will inform closer to the time if fame hasn't gotten to them 😉)
