A new post!

This is a an a piece I’ve been working on in between life and other art projects lately.

This piece is different but a nice break from my usual art style. I have been I seeing a lot of different styled purses and bags lately and was inspired to make this mixed media piece with bags on bags on bags. It is definitely one of the busiest artworks I’ve made, but I kind of enjoy how many different aspects this piece has and how many things there are to look at.

This piece was made using several mediums including watercolor, chalk pastel, cardstock, tissue paper, acrylic, and black and white charcoal.

What is your favorite part of this new work? Comment it below!

As always, swipe to see a timelapse (and closeups of the artwork!)

A new post featuring an artwork that is very different from what I normally post, as it was made for a special person.

This is a drawing I originally made in 2012 (ten years ago, crazy to think) when I was in middle school. I went to an arts high school and in my art class we got the assignment to draw a closeup of an animal eye in chalk pastel. I found a picture of a fish eye in a magazine, liked it, and chose to draw it.

This artwork has always been one of my mother's favorite works of art I've made and for mother's day I wanted to recreate it for her.

When making this new version, similarly to my drawing Basket Of Happiness No. 2, I didn't have any kind of reference image to look at, as I have absolutely no idea what fish this is or where that magazine picture went (although that makes sense for a 10 year gap between then and now). I looked at an image I had of the past drawing and remade it in a new way.

There are of course differences between the drawing I made then versus the one now, but I think they're good differences.

To see what the new 2022 version looks like compared to the 2012, swipe. As always, swipe to also see a timelapse.

*If you've read this far, comment which version is your favorite!*

A new post, and a throwback post in one.

Something I might start doing every now and then is post a throwback to an artwork I made but haven’t yet shared on here. This piece was made last year.

As usual, swipe for a time-lapse!

New post!

This post seems like it came in the blink of an eye. The "end" of senior thesis week. It's crazy to think that a week ago I was working on the final touches of my show, and now it is "over".

This work above was made based off the quote repeated in it, "how do I keep falling in the wrong direction". I saw it one day online and the same day made a sketch for this piece. At the time it felt like my world was being flipped upside down, and I wanted to show that in this work. Hence the compass that is upside down and the world that is in reverse in terms of the ground and the sky. This is one of my favorite pieces I've ever made.

This piece is also the cover art for my thesis show.

My thesis show is called The Intracies of Being a Black Woman in Modern Society was created with my life experiences and other black woman's experiences in mind. How was this done? I had actual black women who wanted to share their stories with me.

Something I have been keeping in mind and the reason I keep quoting "ending" words with this thesis is the fact that my show is not simply "over" now that thesis week is done. The ideas that came from my time working on my show will continue to be a central aspect of my artwork for a while. I have gained so much insight from the discussions started through this thesis, and have many more experiences and stories I want to share. This thesis is happening early in the semester, but the show will still go on, even though the week is over. In addition, my show will still be on view online for a little while longer!

Swipe to see my thesis show cover, and as usual, a timelapse!!

New week, and once again a new post! This is a recent piece I made based on the impact of this year and police break ins in African Americans and people's homes, impacting numerous lives in many ways.

In this work I changed the traditional texture of liquid in this piece. I also added some shadows to darken the piece as I worked on it.

Swipe a closeup, and for the new addition to my posts, timelapses!
