Finally have a second to document one of the most fun days I’ve ever had on drum corps tour. Bluecoats were able to coordinate 3 staff busses to go straight from LAX to our place in Long Beach, where we had the California kickoff party. I set up an impromptu vinyl station, we had our favorite Mexican place, Lola’s, cater, and we got to just chill and enjoy the moment before the craziness of shows and numbers coming out. (take me back, lol) So grateful that I get to work with such cool people.

This weekend I got to celebrate my dad’s life. The outpouring of love from the community he has built over his life was awe-inspiring. @lyzzschwegler wrote a beautiful obituary for him already (thanks Lyzz!) and here are the thoughts I keep having about him.

My dad was an enthusiastic sailor, enthusiastic scientist, bicycle rider, wine appreciator… He was just enthusiastic about life. He often told me he was “relentlessly optimistic”. I think I inherited it from him, which is good because I would rather that than the beard.

He just loved life and it was infectious. It made being his kid really fun. He read the entire Hobbit and Lord of The Rings out loud to us. One year he blew up an Easter egg after he decorated it like a pirate ship. We made tornadoes, battery potatoes, volcanos, and things im sure I can’t remember right now.

I miss him constantly. I miss his stories, I miss hearing about his bike rides, I miss telling him about the random interesting stuff I’m learning in school, I miss him speaking fluent French to me like I understood more than every few words. It was a privilege to be his daughter and I am forever grateful that I knew how lucky I was when he was here.

I love hearing stories about him, so if you knew him, send them my way. And if you really knew him, drink a glass of the best wine you can find and then send the stories my way. It’s just what he would have wanted 🩵

Love you forever and ever dad, you really were one of a kind.

(Final photo taken by @my_bizarre_existence at the end of the celebration. Thanks Kevin, love you too)
