@menopausethemusical turned Times Square pink on Sunday, October 18, as over 50 women linked arms for the World’s First HOT FLASH Mob Kickline in honor of World Menopause Day and the production’s 25th anniversary. See photos at link in bio!

At the free event in Broadway Plaza between 45th and 46th Streets, women at every stage of “The Change” kicked high alongside leading menopause doctors Dr. Mary Claire Haver and Dr. Corinne Menn, advocates, and women’s health coach Guiding Light’s Beth Chamberlin (@bethchamberlin10), saying the word “menopause” out loud at the Crossroads of the World.

“Twenty-five years ago, women whispered the word menopause. Today they wore pink and shouted it in the middle of Times Square,” said director and producer Seth Greenleaf. “Jeanie Linders would have been at the front of that line, if she were still with us.” (@greenleafpro) (@gfourproductions)

“I’ve done this kickline on stages around the world, but never with Times Square behind me,” said original cast member Nancy Slusser. “Every woman who jumped in today got a taste of what our audiences feel at the end of every show, such joy and spirit in this special sisterhood.” (@nslusser1)  Menopause The Musical® will make a donation to its national charitable partner, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (@bcrfcure), for each kickline participant at its World Menopause Day event, reinforcing their shared commitment to women’s health.

On Sunday, Oct. 18, Menopause The Musical® turned Times Square pink as more than 50 women linked arms in honor of World Menopause Day and our production’s 25th anniversary! Women at every stage of “The Change” kicked high and cheered alongside leading menopause doctors and advocates, saying the word “menopause” out loud at the Crossroads of the World. 🩷

In the words of the beautiful and brilliant @rachelfrankenthal a friend I’ve met in this incredible space of collaboration, education and advocacy:

“Education is the vessel for change and progress.” 🩷🩷🩷

I love teaching and I have missed my public health days with rotations of aspiring PAs and NPs hungry to learn all things women’s health. If you’ve ever been my patient, you know I’m always saying, “Hey, I just read this study…” or “I learned something at this conference you need to know!”

Women’s health is already behind in research, so those of us in this space have a duty to stay current and share the information!!!

There was a time I shrunk myself, thinking I’m just a mid-level. What will my physician colleagues think? Am I qualified enough to teach this? But some of the smartest MDs, NPs, RDs and educators in my life have reminded me that decades of caring for women, continued education and a willingness to keep learning have equipped me to share what I know, and I truly feel called to do it. 🩷 Thank you @kellycaspersonmd for telling me to “get out of the cave!” Thank you to all my hype queens for your support!!!

Every clinician caring for women should have foundational knowledge of women’s health, current HRT principles, and the tools that can help women navigate midlife, wellness and longevity. If educating one more clinician ultimately helps one more woman, every hour spent learning and teaching is worth it.

This week I got to share a little of what I love with women of different ages and needs, surrounded by longtime friends and even former NP students who are now doing incredible things in their own fields.

Collaboration over competition!! Education over gatekeeping AND keep sharing what can change women’s lives.

There are plenty of women in NEED and never enough hands to do this work!

‼️The pill: we are at a critical time in our history, where there is a true assault on women’s reproductive rights and freedoms – we are seeing this with the aggressive attack on abortion, despite the fact and data that when abortion is legal – the number of them actually goes down. AND women are safer and healthier…

✅Parallel to this dangerous rhetoric rides fear mongering —against “the pill“ which really encompasses combined hormone contraception like the pill, the patch, the ring as well as progestin only pills or injections or IUDs

😞While any of these forms of contraception absolutely has risks and does not agree with every person’s body, like anything else there are also myriad benefits and many women feel and actually SURVIVE better because of them

🤔My request is that instead of allowing fear through social media to stop you from considering any of these options (ironically potentially putting you at greater risk with an unplanned pregnancy) really speak to your clinicians about the pros and cons – and yes, if your clinician is not taking the time to explain it, understand the restraints on the healthcare system, but/and also find someone who will explain it

👍And just FYI, before you come at me in my DM’s or comments —no, none of us as doctors are “shills for the birth control companies”— in fact if we’re being incredibly frank – I still deliver babies and I would make FAR more money if everyone got pregnant – so noodle on that before you sling accusations at clinicians who are actually doing the right thing by encouraging their patients to decrease unplanned pregnancies, treat their pelvic pain, decrease their monthly hemorrhaging, and minimize their cancer risk by potentially using the pill

For years, women were told a very simple story about hormones and the heart.

The actual science is becoming much more nuanced.

A new JAMA Internal Medicine study followed 2,737 women with hot flashes or night sweats who had no previous cardiovascular disease and had never used menopause hormone therapy.

Among them, 755 started systemic MHT.

The finding that caught my attention:

MHT initiation was associated with an estimated 22% lower risk of cardiovascular events.

And timing mattered.

Women who started within 10 years of menopause onset had an estimated 27% lower risk.

But this is where we have to practice good medicine instead of turning one study into a headline:

This does NOT prove that hormone therapy prevents heart disease.

This was an observational analysis using target-trial emulation—not a randomized clinical trial. Residual confounding is still possible, and the authors specifically caution against using these findings as a reason to prescribe MHT solely for cardiovascular prevention.

What it does add to the conversation is important:

When we talk about hormone therapy, timing matters.
Who the patient is matters.
And the risk-benefit conversation is far more nuanced than “hormones are good” or “hormones are bad.”

That is the kind of menopause medicine women deserve.
