Four years after allegations of grooming and sexual misconduct in Dane County, drummer David Henzie-Skogen is back on the road overseas with Youngblood Brass Band. His accusers are asking where the accountability is. Scott Gordon reports.

"...Henzie-Skogen is returning to the public eye as a musician. Youngblood Brass Band, which he co-founded in 1998, is currently on a tour of the UK and Europe this fall, and the band has confirmed to Tone Madison that Henzie-Skogen is part of the tour. It kicked off with an October 27 show at the Village Underground in London, and is set to end with a November 20 'educational workshop' at the Conservatoire de Marquette-lez-Lille in Lille, France.

Several of Henzie-Skogen's accusers are asking why he embarked on this new chapter before publicly acknowledging or responding to the accusations against him. They're also questioning how he managed to gain a professional role in behavioral health within less than two years of the allegations becoming public. [...]

The 'amends' part [in Henzie-Skogan's only public statement about allegations against him from September 18] is news to every single one of the women who have spoken with Tone Madison over the past four years about the misconduct they say they experienced from Henzie-Skogen. Multiple women have consistently, steadfastly, in repeated interviews from fall 2021 to fall 2025, said that they've never seen any statement or communication from Henzie-Skogen that would resemble a meaningful effort to make amends. Asked about the band's email statement supporting Henzie-Skogen's renewed involvement, the women cited in this story all stood by their previous accounts. Henzie-Skogen did attempt to reach out to at least one of them through an intermediary, but she found the attempt unwelcome."

Drum corps is expensive and one way to slightly counteract that is with scholarships. We're just two days away from the first submission deadline, with an additional eight scholarships also available for any DCI members to apply for, although some scholarships do have other requirements, such as a specific section, specific grade level, or specific class. Unfortunately, DCI hasn't compiled a full list of scholarship opportunities for this season, so if you know of another scholarship not listed, please let us know. For the ones we know of, see the board for the scholarship opportunities currently available and check out the link in our bio for more details on every scholarship available this season

Happy Pride Month! Pride Month is a great time to do a self-check and ask yourself about what you are doing to be inclusive and supportive for your performers. We love to follow @maasinetwork and their initiatives to make the marching arts more equitable and safe.

With just over a week before I head to York for Miss PA week, I am so excited to announce that the Marching Arts Access, Safety, and Inclusion Network(MAASIN) will be my on stage sponsor for this year’s Miss Pennsylvania scholarship competition presented by the J. William Warehime Foundation.

I have been involved in the marching arts as a color guard performer and now director, for the last ten years and I deeply believe in MAASIN’s vision of accessible, inclusive, and equitable marching arts for all. I truly found myself within the marching arts and believe that opportunity should be allotted to all who wish to participate.

I’m honored to have been a recipient of MAASIN’s March With Pride Scholarship this past winter so that I could further my performing arts education and look forward to what’s to come from all of MAASIN’s initiatives and future workshops.

Thank you MAASIN for all the work you do and for your support as I compete for the job of a lifetime.
