MAASTRICHT WINE ESTATE Yesterday’s wine estate exploration was Maastricht Wine Estate. A beautiful, rustic boutique estate with roots dating back to 1702, they officially launched their brand in 2010 the Louw family launched their own brand after years of supplying grapes to other producers. And my fave, Contour 2025 Wooded Sauvignon Blanc, notes of citrus and tropical fruit, beautifully rounded and balanced with a bit of oak influence and so delightfully easy to drink. A Sauvignon Blanc with a little extra depth and character and yes definitely a good one for someone who loves Chardonnay…… and yes, where there is white wine involved I will always mention Chardonnay 😊 #winelover #wine #capetown #maastrichtwines

A wine farm to add to your list of places to visit has to be Maastricht Wines in Durbanville 🍷 Maastricht is especially known for its Sauvignon Blanc, but there’s a really good mix across the tasting if you want to try a few different wines. The platter was also a great addition. Plenty of cheese, charcuterie and little extras to snack on while working your way through the tasting. #juanleolife #capetown

I’ve been visiting Durbanville from when I started my lifelong love of wine. Then it was really in the boondocks well behind the boerewors curtain. Their wine industry has grown as has the suburb which is currently a bustling city. Most cellars seem to cater to the mass market both in wine and restaurant offerings. Bloemendal, Meerendal and Nitida as prime examples. But there are other real finds like The Journal range from Diemersdal. We’ve loved recent lunches at Klein Roosboom and Groot Phesantekraal whose Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin are stunning. Our current favourite is undoubtedly Maastricht. They are genuinely friendly and hospitable down to earth folk. Their wines are great, my current favourites are their Pinot Noir and their standard Sauvignon Blanc which has the most appealing nose. They also offer an outstanding meat and cheese platter beautifully presented with lots of fresh fruit and home baked bread. Please take a look at the accompanying pic. Maastricht, it’s a real treat(y)!!!
