🌍 WORLD INTER CLUB CHAMPS 2026 TEAM ANNOUNCEMENT 🏆 It is with immense pride that the Clifton and Macassar selection committee announce our amazing Youth and Open teams heading up to Gqeberha to take on the rest of the World in December. 72 proud lifeguard athletes will represent our united team. For many this will be a once in a lifetime opportunity to compete on home soil at a World Champs and they will create incredible memories. We head to World Champs this year after a fine showing in Australia 2 years ago, and we can’t wait to improve on that in all aspects of what it means to represent our two proud clubs. Thanks you to the selection committee for countless hours of voluntary work done in putting this all together and to the senior leadership of both clubs for being involved and signing off on these teams. Lots of hard work remains between now and then, but by December we will be ready to send it.⚡️

Some partnerships change clubs. Others change people. Separated by 51.2 kilometres, Clifton Surf Lifesaving Club and Macassar Surf Lifesaving Club call two very different coastlines home. Yet over the past three years, they’ve built something far bigger than a partnership. Together, they’ve developed new lifeguards, qualified instructors, created opportunities for athletes, shared coaching knowledge, strengthened committee leadership and built lifelong friendships. Introducing the new Lifesaving Western Cape logo. A symbol of unity, pride, and identity for the lifesaving community across our province. At the centre of the design sits the Western Cape skull cap — one of the oldest identifiers within lifesaving clubs and a true mark of our movement. We wear them so we can be easily recognised in the water, but more importantly, they unite us as one community. The cap is worn by athletes representing the province, but it also reflects the wider network of clubs, lifeguards, coaches, officials, volunteers, and young nippers who form the foundation of lifesaving in the Western Cape. The flowing wave form reflects our connection to both the ocean and the pool — the environments where our members train, patrol, and compete. At the heart of the logo stands Table Mountain, an unmistakable symbol of the Western Cape. Inspired by the provincial crest, it anchors the logo in place and identity, representing strength, permanence, and our connection to the communities we serve. The six lines within the skull cap represent the six districts of the Western Cape, recognising the diversity and depth of clubs and communities across the province, united through lifesaving. This logo represents more than a team, it represents a movement committed to water safety, drowning prevention, lifesaving sport, and protecting the people along our coastline. Saving Lives Together.

There’s a certain electricity that lives in the waters of Fish Hoek. Nestled deep in the Southern Peninsula, framed by rugged Cape granite cliffs, soft golden sands and clear turquoise water, Fish Hoek Beach has long been a proving ground for some of South Africa’s toughest and most technically gifted surf lifesaving athletes. On the 7th of February, it hosts the third surf competition of the Rescue Sport Series, the final meaningful test before the focus shifts firmly to the Western Cape Championships. A sustained run of high winds has shaped the venue into near-perfect racing conditions. The beach lies smooth and compact, hardened into a natural racetrack, while the ocean remains honest and demanding, a setting that rewards athletes who can read conditions, commit early and execute cleanly. ⏰ The first whistle sounds at 12:30. Proceedings open with Oceanwoman and Oceanman, setting the tone for an intense afternoon of racing before a stacked surf programme unfolds. Athletes will contest Beach Sprints, Surf Swim, Beach Sprint Relay, Surf Ski, Board and Taplin. One of the most anticipated moments of the day is the return of the Mixed Double Ski, re-entering the competitive arena for the first time in many years. Once a cornerstone event at National and Provincial Championships, the Mixed Double Ski is a true test of partnership, two athletes moving in sync, balancing power and rhythm in open water. There is no more fitting venue for its comeback than Fish Hoek, a beach synonymous with paddling excellence and home to generations of World Champions. Conditions here rarely allow for complacency. And if the wind picks up, as Fish Hoek is known to deliver, expect the strongest and toughest lifeguards to rise to the surface. With Rescue Sport Series leaderboard points on the line and Western Cape Championships fast approaching, every race carries weight. For many, this will be the moment to assert form and send a clear message heading into the peak of the season. Fish Hoek doesn’t give anything away. It reveals who’s rescue ready. See you on the beach.
