Growing up in Hamilton, Olive Thomas spent years exploring the city’s waterfalls. Now, she’s researching them.

The McMaster Environmental Science master's student has visited more than 40 of the city's 100+ waterfalls, turning a lifelong interest in these local landmarks into research.

What began as an undergraduate thesis has grown into a master's project exploring how water, ice and erosion are shaping Hamilton's waterfall landscapes.

As part of the Niagara Escarpment Erosion Project (NEEP), Thomas is studying how these natural features change over time and what those changes could mean for the region's future.

Visit the #LinkInBio to read about how Thomas is turning her love of Hamilton’s waterfalls into research with real-world impact. Olive Thomas smiling while seated in front of a waterfall. She is wearing a black t-shirt with text that reads, 'Marauder Nation.'
