Another year older, still sitting on Paris benches pretending I have nowhere else to be…📷 by @missparisphoto

Doing absolutely nothing in the spring sunshine — which, frankly, is an art form. No macarons in hand (shock horror), but plenty of inspiration for what comes next.

Now I just need to remember to do more of this… preferably with you, my friends 😉

Also — if anyone can decipher that philosophical quote on the bench by Cocteau, do enlighten me — I feel it’s saying something important and I’ve completely missed it or rubbed some of it out 😂

And thank you so much for all the lovely birthday messages — you’ve made my day 💛🥂

One of the most beautiful tea rooms in Paris...

I met my dear friend, Kyoko and her lovely daughter at the renovated café Nélie at the @jacquemartandre museum on Boulevard Haussmann — still firmly on my list of the best tea rooms in Paris.

Inside:
– Belgian tapestries and a grand salon setting
– a classic dessert trolley (always a good sign)
– pastries by world pastry champion Nina Métayer

That pistachio macaron with raspberries was impossible to resist. And the Parisian flan? One of the best Paris desserts that’s not too sweet and full of these vanilla flecks, with a subtle smoky taste.

Not sponsored — just a genuinely special Paris address.

I’ve updated it on my guide to Paris tea rooms by arrondissement if you’re planning a visit (or saving ideas for later) - on Mad about Macarons.

Would you go straight for the macaron… or the flan?

So lovely to see you, Kyoko @macarongirl61 and Erica @erica.spear_ - next time I hope you’ll give us a flute recital - can you imagine playing here? 😍

📍Bonjour from Paris - it’s been a while!
The last time I properly introduced myself here was back in 2022, and since then, many of you are new - bienvenue! Recently I’ve been a little quiet, as I’ve been stirring away behind the scenes on something exciting…

✨ My new book, Master Crème Caramel, is coming out next week!
It’s a complete, step-by-step guide to lighter French custard desserts - gluten-free, flavour-packed, and easy to make with confidence at home. I can’t wait to share it with you, as I’ve been so lucky to work with such talented designers @karlovaeditora - it’s beautiful!

I’m Jill, Scottish-French author and founder of the Paris-based blog MadAboutMacarons.com, where I share French recipes that are a little healthier, a lot easier, and full of flavour - from seasonal savoury dishes to classic desserts like crème caramel.

I’ve lived in the Paris region for over 30 years, married into a French (Corsican) family, and raised two lovely daughters who speak English with a touch of a Scottish accent - it confuses people every time and I love it.
🍓 I also share favourite pâtisseries, tearooms, and foodie tips to help you enjoy Paris like a local - or simply bring a little taste of France to your kitchen.

Merci for being here - I’m so looking forward to reconnecting 🥰

You’re not going to believe this is Scotland this week.

Surprising about turn; while Paris has been coping with rained out tennis matches at the French open, the Scottish sunshine has made an extra special whirlwind trip visiting my parents back home in Edinburgh.

Just some of the surprising views, not in order:

- [ ] Seaside saunas in Elie, Fife
- [ ] The buzzing harbours and fishing ports of the East Neuk of Fife
- [ ] Arty Scottish breakfast in front of Edinburgh Castle, Charles Rennie Macintosh style
- [ ] Indian street food on swings
- [ ] Hidden Edinburgh along the Water of Leith walkway
But the best? Scottish strawberries with Mum and Dad in their garden - always with our favourite Italian ice cream from Musselburgh 🍓 memories of picking our own in Pencaitland, until I left Scotland at 22 l.

Have you been to Scotland? What are your best memories?

Last week was such a blast at the Culinary Mastermind Retreat in Palm Springs! Hosted by my wonderful friend, @Christinascucina and sponsored by @mediavine, it was truly inspirational to brainstorm and share ideas with fellow food and travel writers @whatagirleats @cookingontheweekends @shepaused4thought @danastablela

What’s more, we were spoiled with fabulous produce including: @getmainelobster for incredible lobster, shrimp and clam chowder served in @revol_usa cocottes with beautiful Californian fruit from @melissasproduce - tasting my first ‘Pixie’ tangerine on our hike at Palm Canyon, the biggest palm oasis in the world!

Much more on stories (I’ll make a highlight on IG so you don’t miss anything), with Christina’s great recipes!

A huge thanks to Christina for such a motivational trip in all ways. Managing a food blog single-handed is often disheartening with the amount of work that goes into it. Her dynamism and expertise has been so uplifting, including introducing me to shops and produce that I’d never even heard of in Europe - even Mexican and Korean food!
Mille mercis, my friend for such a fun time together and all your delicious cooking, including homemade pasta together with your Mum 🥰

Sticky toffee pudding goes formal for dessert with ginger ice cream.

Was thrilled to finally get to a student guest formal @pembrokeoxford this weekend with our daughter, Lucie - already in her final 4th year! Time has just flown. Can you imagine that Pembroke have just celebrated their 400th birthday?

As I held this sticky toffee pudding high to take the 1st photo, the lovely staff put another one at my place. Any tourist may have thought it was a Harry Potter magic trick!
Note to self: remember this trick for extra helpings 🤭 I did own up and was happily told to keep the second one.

Thank you for a lovely weekend @friedfreckles_ college hopping, enjoying the snowdrops and daffodils in the gardens. More on stories, including our favourite STP recipe with apple, baked in the darkest toffee sauce 🥰

When you meet up for tea in Paris with lovely watercolour artist, Carol Gillott of @parisbreakfast fame, she brings her sketchbook and paints the cakes, pots and cups 🎨

Do you subscribe to Carol’s cheery monthly letters sent by post from Paris? Her maps and fun additions are great gifts or for yourself - and are on her profile, her blog and all on Etsy.

🫖For Parisian tearooms, don’t forget my list of favourite addresses by arrondissement or by landmark for your next Paris trip at Madaboutmacarons.

This was at @lesdeuxabeillesparis 🐝🐝 in the 7th near the Eiffel Tower - a cosy salon de thé with homemade tarts, crumbles and French chocolate cake.

Provençal poppies for you ❤️ from France’s beautiful Luberon this weekend.

What about a picnic with a few poppy and rhubarb #macarons? Recipe in my book, Teatime in Paris. Luckily you don’t need a field of poppies to make them - just as well, as apparently too many poppy flowers have hypnotic effects.
Hypnotic effffects
Hyyypnotiiic ….😍

Also think these poppies are rather fitting for US Memorial Day. Thinking of all those courageous souls who have sacrificed their lives for their country’s freedom.

Poppy flavored candies are also very popular in France - particularly sentimental as a fragrance for the likes of my parents-in-law who grew up with them.
