Me and the @smhsmultimedia year 3 students are super grateful to have had @madelinepcarter come out and share her knowledge and experience with us!!! 😎📸

It was such an awesome feeling having her see and enjoy one of my photos, being able to hand over a printed copy, and hearing that she planned to hang it up. Such a surreal and rewarding feeling as a photographer!! ⭐️👏

The first time I saw this photo of A’ja Wilson taken by the talented Madeline Carter, I saw focus. Somebody in her face, and she stayed locked in.

Now, seeing her earn her FIFTH MVP? That photo hits different.

Full disclosure: I’m a Liberty fan. But greatness deserves its flowers, no matter what jersey you wear.

Hearing A’ja recognizing that this fifth trophy belongs to the people who helped her get here, servesas a huge reminder for me. Because talent might get you in the room, but community helps you keep building.

And somewhere, a little Black girl is watching A’ja Wilson and seeing what’s possible for herself. Seeing excellence. Seeing power. Seeing HERSELF.

That’s bigger than basketball.

Congratulations, A’ja. Give that woman her flowers.

Photographer @madelinepcarter, who was behind the viral A’ja Wilson photo, almost deleted it. After a night of second-guessing herself, she took a risk and posted the pic to social media. She then woke up to thousands of likes, people tagging brands like Nike and Gatorade, and the image being called the sports photo of the year.🤯📸

In our conversation with Madeline, she opened up about the preparation behind capturing the moment, the self-doubt that almost stopped her from sharing it, and the reminder that usually we’re our own worst critics.🙏❤️
