“Inherited Hands” — a quiet reflection on how creativity is passed down, shared, or mirrored through generations

My mother was a prolific creative; from sewing to painting, making teddy bears to cooking, everything she did was infused with beauty and skill

I remember as a child this feeling that this particular role of “artist” was TAKEN in our family; this title belonged to my mother, not me. I was daunted by her perceived, ‘singular talent’

Little did I know, this lived in me too, but I was too afraid to ‘compete’ for this place, silly me...

Now all these years later, I claim some of that space for myself and recognise how this ‘gift’ keeps getting passed on, and how flawed my thinking was

I’m delighted to say, may darling daughter has no such hang-up’s. She is a wonderfully bold and confident artist, who makes magic out of everything she touches

It is a delight to share our love of creativity together, to be living together again for a season, and to have this shared joy of expression

Thank you Mila, you inspire me and I am truly grateful to be your mama, and fellow artist...
