what is required of the body to absorb language? what gestures ask my body to become in order for text to encounter the site of knowing, this body?

two poems, in reverse, ask the reader to place their body in line with the mirrors on the shelf or hold them in their hand, dodging and weaving around their own head to take in the language. or perhaps receive the text as its own image, backwards, trusting language to be the spell that it always is, all around us.

i began some new (terrifying) work a while back. this particular performance was a ~ROUGHHH~ draft improvisation at @charlottestreetfoundation last spring. when i received documentation from the show, i shied away. no- id rather not look at myself in my flesh tone body suit in front of an audience. thx. no- i’d rather not watch my second improv performance. eek. i do this thing often in creative work where i get an idea and DIVE straight in. no questions asked. then, once in the thick of it, i say to myself, “wow this shit is actually really hard and terrifying. (lol) GO FIGURE.” i finally allowed myself to really look at this work again this last weekend without judgement (okay, maybe some), and allow the work to begin brewing and stirring again. here’s to creating scary, exciting work (this also includes relationships and any other thing you too might be cooking up— “art” related or not 😉)
