Hanging with friends in the Dr. Sun Yat-sen Park and Garden. The ticketed garden side is an earlier project by the same Suzhou Garden Development Company that built the Lan Su Garden in Portland’s Chinatown (stay tuned for those pics) and the Huntington’s garden, so it was also like meeting a close mutual friend.

Kind of a homecoming in Jiangmen and Kaiping. Seeing my ancestral village as part of a display at the Overseas Museum in Jiangmen. Visiting a ghostly mirage of a town emptied of people spirit and replaced with surreal illusions. And Selia Tan generously showing us around and letting us pick and taste the first lychees of the season!

Haw Par Mansion is the insane and obsessive vision of the Tiger Balm brothers trying to moralize the working class. It includes a Hell’s Museum and many colorful tableau vivants with stories lost to a 21st c. audience. This is an absolute MUST when visiting Singapore!

Art students in assistant professor of art history Allison Young's Sites of Contemporary Art course, along with fellow art faculty, toured the Prospect New Orleans art festival in November 2024.

They visited the Contemporary Arts Center and met with artists Hannah Chalew and Ruth Owens, toured the New Orleans African American Museum, viewed sculptures in Lehmann Park and Alone Time Gallery, and explored various sites throughout the Arabi, Bywater, and Marigny areas including public murals.

LSU School of Art students, faculty and staff traveled to China!

At the invitation of Taoxichuan International Art Center in the porcelain capital Jingdezhen, China, art history professor William Ma brought MFA ceramics students (Sarah Miller, Peter Froehlich, and Matt Jones), staff Chenta Franklin, and art historian Dr. Patricia Yu from Kenyon College to participate in the Autumn Art Fair.

Before arriving in Jingdezhen, they spent several days in Shanghai visiting museums and gardens with Professor Ma and Yu serving as impromptu guides. In addition to the fair, which featured more than 500 Chinese and international ceramic artists and saw thousands of visitors over three days, the MFA students’ works were featured in the concurrent exhibition Porcelain of China, Azure of the Sky at Jingdezhen Vocational University of Art. The same exhibition also included works by graduate and undergraduate ceramic students unable attend the trip: Logan Hunter, Sydney Butts, and Jaelyn "Yaya" Hill. The group also had the opportunity to visit various historical sites and museums at Jingdezhen, and the team was able to learn from and make invaluable connections with ceramic artists from around the world. They were particularly fortunate to reconnect with an LSU ceramics alumna Sin-ying Ho (MFA 2001), an established porcelain artist well-acquainted with Taoxichuan and Jingdezhen. LSU Tigers were well-represented at this major international event!

LSU Ceramics (@lsuceramics) trip to China was a smashing success! We exhibited in a show and participated in the Autumn Art Fair at Taoxichuan in Jingdezhen, the famed porcelain capital that none of us have ever visited. It’s been a life-long goal of mine. Thank you @pew.pew.pyu for coming on the trip with us and helping us navigate. Thank you @tay_tay_dapeaceful1 @jonesclayworks @18sixpottery @sarahmoschelmiller for sharing their works and venturing to the other side of the world! @lsuartanddesign @lsu.art @lsu
