One Year Later, What Matters Hasn’t Changed

It’s hard to believe it has been a year.

On October 20, 2025, the votes were counted in our municipal election.

I didn’t win a seat on Council, but a year later, I realize how much I gained just by putting my name forward.

Running for office gave me the opportunity to knock on doors, listen to people and hear firsthand what mattered to them.

And despite everything that has changed, I don’t think the fundamentals have changed very much at all.

People want to be able to afford their lives.

They want to feel safe in their homes and neighbourhoods.

And they want to feel connected to the community they call home.

Affordability. Safety. Community.

Those were the concerns I heard throughout Ward 2, and I believe they matter just as much today.

One of the biggest things I learned is that public service isn’t about winning a seat. It’s about listening, understanding what matters to people and being willing to make a difference.

Would I have liked a different result a year ago?

Of course.

But I don’t look back and think about what I lost.

I think about what I gained.

The conversations. The friendships. The lessons. And the people who challenged me to think differently.

Over the past year, I’ve continued to volunteer, learn and give back to the community I’m fortunate to call home.

Thank you to every volunteer, donor, supporter and resident who believed in me and this campaign. I will always be grateful for your time, encouragement and trust.

A special thank you to Roxanne Carr, Jacquie Fenske, Serena Mah and Dave Quest for their endorsements and for believing in me. Your confidence and encouragement meant more than you may ever realize.

The campaign may be over, but my commitment to this community is not.

🇨🇦 Proud to be Canadian. Proud to call Alberta home. ❤️

Yesterday, I had the privilege of being in a room filled with inspiration, passion, and an incredible sense of community as we came together to celebrate our shared commitment to Alberta’s future within Canada.

It was a powerful reminder that we should never take for granted the country we call home. The freedoms, opportunities, diversity, and sense of belonging we experience are things worth appreciating every single day. We are incredibly fortunate to call Canada home.

A heartfelt thank you to @talukaszuk for his unwavering dedication, and to the remarkable 18,000 @forevercanadianhq volunteers who have given their time, energy, and passion to this initiative. Your commitment to something bigger than yourselves is truly inspiring.

I’m incredibly grateful to have played even a small part in this journey and to have witnessed such a meaningful moment firsthand.

Yesterday was more than a celebration. It was a reminder of the power of community, the importance of standing together, and just how lucky we are to be Canadian.

An experience I will never forget. 🇨🇦❤️

A little bit of snippets of the Leadership, our tastawiyiniwak, and Allies making history by saying “no more” to colonial violence. This is what it looks like to dust off over 500 years of misogyny, patriarchy, homophobia, transphobia and return to our original teachings of sahkitowin (love ❤️), kisewatisiwin (kindness), and inclusivity.
