Our Headlands Photography Club enjoyed a beautiful trip to the Mentor Lagoons on Saturday. The sunlight, wildflowers, eagles, pileated woodpeckers, and baby painted turtle were all a treat! Our photography club meets once a month. Our next get-together is 1 pm on Saturday, May 21.

I love this photo of my friend’s daughter snuggled in her 20 block #tshirtquilt It has an amazing yellow furry backing. I made it in early 2020 - pre-pandemic. Remember that? She and my niece are young nurses (@kentstate grads) that started their careers at that time. A few more photos of our night out last night! @clevelandmagazine celebrated the #BestofCLE21 at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Here I am with my daughters as we sport our @annecate bags! Swipe to see the whole gang and a few shots of some of the exhibits and new inductees. There is a lot to take in at the museum. It’s an interesting building designed by I. M. Pei. All the Best of Cleveland Honorees had tables where they could distribute samples so we tasted lots of goodies from local restaurants, wineries, and breweries. The thing about #Cleveland is that it has exciting, big-city offerings but is a place where you know people. It was fun to be with the movers and shakers and run into people you know! Thanks for taking a limoncello shot with us @aliciamhansen 😉. And I met my grade school friend’s son because I recognized him from her Facebook posts. He’s a popular DJ! The cute #Cleveland fabric from @joann_stores became an apron! I had some green duck cloth that was a great match for the backing. We have one of our family reunions this weekend (the 91st!) and @annecate and I are creating a #CLE basket. It will have some Anne Cate products, of course, this apron, and some unique Cleveland foods. I’ll share the finished basket - which will actually be a bag - when we finish putting it together. Annie and I are Cleveland gals. Our city has been very supportive of Annie. Clevelanders have a lot of pride! Recently, there was a social media post by NYC putting some shade on CLE. Clevelanders rallied in response. I’m old enough to remember a marketing campaign in 1981 that fell a bit flat - “NYC may be the Big Apple, but Cleveland’s a Plum.” I’m not even sure what that meant but it faded rather quickly. Today the Anne Cate team exchanged sewing machines and fulfillment tables for conveyor belts and non-perishable food! We spent the day volunteering at the @clefoodbank and it was so wonderful. We packaged 480 boxes that will be distributed weekly at the muni-lot downtown. The Cleveland community supports Anne Cate so much, we have been working hard to give back in any way we can. 🥪🍎🍽

Thank you to my sweet team members (and my mom) for being willing to spend their hours at the Food Bank!

CRAFTY GIVEAWAY ALERT! Anne Cate and I know it’s very hard for entrepreneurs and sole proprietors to shut off work - even in the evenings or during holidays. (I think it’s even harder when you work at home to carve out break time.) I have a number of hobbies that I enjoy: knitting, sewing (still!), reading, hiking, skiing, sailing. Annie’s hobby is work! Psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalya’s book “Flow” (which I’m currently reading) finds that people are satisfied with their lives when they are challenged and when they have skills that meet the challenge. Knitting and sewing help me achieve flow. I’m always learning new things! I thought it would be fun to do a sewing-related giveaway. What’s included:

Mom and Me!! My creative love stems from my hardworking mother, a sewing entrepreneur herself, @maidenjane, who I was honored to be featured with side by side in the @contempocleveland 2021 Female Founder's Calendar. A former engineer who found more love in fabric than chemicals, she has been running a custom sewing studio for the last 12+ years: creating memory quilts, pillows, totes, teddy bears...all out of recycled materials and clothes of loved ones. I was so fortunate to have been given the opportunity to learn how to sew from my mom and encouraged to run my own business at a young age.

Our work is very different - hers: detailed oriented and time-consuming...mine: production focused, making 100+ products at a time. It's so great to have each other to throw ideas off of and help with construction issues..but at the end of the day, we rarely find ourselves helping each other's businesses because we are too busy on our own!! An end of day glass of wine on the other hand...that is definitely shared! 🍷
