✨Impressions of this year’s 𝗜𝗨𝗡𝗢 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀✨

Looking back at the 𝗜𝗨𝗡𝗢 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, which we organised together with the Performing Arts Program Berlin (PAP) in July 2026.

Over the course of four days, a diverse program of workshops and discussions offered insights into the use of AI and XR in artistic practice, production, distribution and freelance work in the arts.

Stay tuned for our upcoming workshop series, »Own the Process: Artistic AI Beyond the Prompt«, organised in collaboration with the Bildungswerk des BBK Berlin.

✨All events were free thanks to funding by the ERDF within the program INP-III & ESF+✨

The first IUNO Networking Event last Friday at HTW Berlin was so rich and inspiring!

Fantastic guests from Berlin’s independent art & culture scene joined despite the heat, contributing questions and lively discussions. And we had amazing speakers, workshop leads and consultation specialists on board.
We experienced the event as a great combination of strong theory and practice, of critical thinking and ideas for our future, of trying out and reflecting.

Looking very much forward to next networking formats and practice-oriented workshops on XR, AI, and their synthesis in art & culture!

A big thank-you to all participants, especially to our collab partners and contributors:

• CCCberlin @cccberlin_beyond

• Kreativ Kultur Berlin @kreativkulturberlin

• Jinran Ha @jinran_ha

• Jasmin Grimm @jazzmademoiselle

• Damian Dziwis @damiantd

• Robert M. Stanley @european_artist_bank

• Pablo Dornhege @pablo.dornhege

• Warja Rybakova from dockDigital @neslob_ @dock_digital_berlin

• Erasmus Schmidt @erasmus.schmidt

• Julius Wenk

• all presenting and supporting HTW Berlin students

The event was free thanks to the co-funding of ERDF within the program INP-III.

Registration for the IUNO Networking event on June 19, 2026, 1–7 pm at HTW Berlin is still open via our website - link in bio!

As a university project IUNO is always interested in giving upcoming talents the chance to present their projects!

The following HTW Berlin student projects will be shown:

𝐇𝐲𝐩𝐞𝐫-𝐈𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐈𝐈𝐈 — 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐬
By 14 students of Prof. Pablo Dornhege who will present the project @pablo.dornhege

In this immersive experience, communication design students explore how 3D scanning, VR, and creative tools can blur the boundaries between reality and imagination. Starting from Berlin’s RAW-Gelände in Friedrichshain, they scanned the cassiopeia venue and its surroundings. These scans were transformed into hyper-surreal space-sound installations — explorable as shared VR worlds by up to 4 people simultaneously.

𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭
By students of Prof. Habakuk Israel

𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭 merges surrealism with augmented reality, transforming static art into an immersive experience. Using AR technology combined with a custom-built frame, viewers look behind and even out of the canvas into the virtual atelier of artist Mac Zimmermann. The installation makes it possible to experience the series »Die Tageszeiten« as a living 3D model. Inspired by the STRANGE! exhibition at Sammlung Scharf-Gerstenberg, this project was developed by students of Computer Science in Culture and Health at HTW Berlin.

𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝟐𝐈𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬 – 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬
By students of Prof. Thomas Manke

This project visualizes data using breast cancer as an example having different subtypes that require different treatments. The bio informatics students trained a classification model on gene expression data to identify these subtypes and reduce each sample to a format used by modern AI image generators. These representations are then transformed into unique faces. Faces from the same subtype show surprising similarities. Visitors are invited to classify the generated faces yand compare their intuition with the AI model.

Looking for a weekend read? The final publication of our previous research project, AURORA XR School for Artists, is now available to download!

It presents the three innovative XR cultural projects we developed collaboratively with our artistic fellows from 2023–25:

𝑭𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝑯𝒐𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒍𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝑯𝒐𝒔𝒑𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 by Martin Binder @bindermartin_art
An interactive WebAR experience about hostile design in public space.

𝑵𝒐𝒗𝒐𝒄𝒆𝒏𝒆 – 𝑨 𝑷𝒐𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝑭𝒖𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 by Jens Isensee @jooooooki
A mixed-reality application addressing the climate crisis.

𝑷𝒉𝒚𝒈𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒍 𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒄𝒚 by Lisa Kaschubat, Tasha Hess-Neustadt, and Jane Arnison @lisakaschubat @tashamhn @janearnison
A multiplayer mixed-reality performance about togetherness and care.

For each project, the publication brings together insights into the underlying research question, the artistic and technical implementation, and the results.

And of course, full credit to the AURORA team: Maja Stark @majastarkberlin Leonid Barsht @leonid_xr Julian Knepel @jk_jkay Dagmar Schürrer @dagschu

The publication is available to download as a PDF in both German and English via the link in bio. Enjoy!
