I taught an intermediate class 5 days ago and did something new with them! This lesson teaches students about fauvism, watercolour resist, gradient, colour theory (warm and cool colours, and analogous) and implied textures.

Inspo: @makeamark_studios (thanks for making this lesson ☺️)

Free Draw Friday: celebrating September 5th birthday queens in art class today. Students get to free draw for once 😂 or do the birthday #blendartchallenge created by @makeamark_studios. I have been playing a fun playlist of greatest hits from the first five decades of my life. Carpenters, Neil Diamond, Debbie Boone, Michael Jackson, Cyndi Lauper, Sinead O’ Connor, Eye of the Tiger…
I think this is going to be an annual tradition/celebration. I think I’m gonna make an entertaining slideshow of my years growing up for my students… #freddy80

Check out these awesome creations by our 8-11 year old artists! 🎨✨

In this exciting project, our artists designed their very own original cartoon characters!

We focused on learning how to overlap characters and objects to create depth and make their artwork feel more dynamic and alive.

To level up the challenge, each artist was limited to choosing just 4–5 colors to create unity and harmony throughout their piece. It’s amazing to see how cohesive and bold their artwork became by thoughtfully repeating their color palette!

So proud of their creativity and artistic growth! 💛
Thanks to @makeamark_studios for the inspiration!!

Her name was Billie, the girl. Last night, at 15 years-old to the month, she died at home, in her favorite dirt pit in our backyard. As lucky as it seems she was to have found a loving home, we were the lucky ones. She was our baby before we had babies, and she welcomed our children into our home, with zero preconditions. She was always watching over all of us, even if we didn’t know it, and I only realized this today as I searched through our videos. She was always there watching, protecting, and playing. She loved to chase sticks into the water, car rides, digging elaborate tunnels, watching the kids fish, her backyard, and possums. The kids got to experience the whole thing, including her euthanasia. We got to lay with her, touch her, tell her how much she meant to us, cry with her, and love her in her final moments. I hope it was enough to give her the death she deserved. She was really something else, our Billie. Enjoy some of her greatest moments #billiethegirl

Intro to painting in the middle of some beautiful fauvist inspired animal portraits with acrylic paint. Thanks for the lesson from @makeamark_studios on TPT. It was a nice change from what we had been doing and they are learning a lot!
