“Thrill of Living” (2022) by @thehumanfly_ offers the warm melancholy inherent to the best alternative country and folk, but the five-piece band’s chemistry and the record’s thematic material result in a compellingly uplifting experience that drives the listener to call their friends rather than succumb to the gloom. The band’s members are an allstar cast featuring wickedly talented designers, illustrators, and engineers. This wellspring of talent is evident in these dynamite recordings and that killer expanded artwork on the tape edition.

a special moment from a very special night. this song is one of the first upholstery songs I ever wrote and the first one Kate and I ever sang together. totally surreal to be singing it together nearly twenty years later (!!)

love to kate and the crew who has kept this silly little circus alive. next year we celebrate TWENTY YEARZ of UPHOLSTERY and you know we’ll be busting out this one!!

gratitude post!! gotta give a special shoutout to these tres amigos. they’ve played nearly every show with me in the past two years and we’ve really locked in as a quartet.

if you’ve been following Uph for awhile, you know it’s fairly common to see a wildly different lineup on each show. but thanks to these folks, Uph has felt more like a ‘band’ than a ‘loose collective’ lately. and they’re also great people to hang with and staunchly anti-fascist. what more could a guy ask for?
