D. 30. september var alle studerende ved Det Jyske Kunstakademi på ekskursion til Thy. Vi startede på Kunsthal Thy, hvor vi så udstillingen 'The Jewel Box' af Nanna Starck, og fik en introduktion til kunsthallen og tankerne bag, af kunstfaglig chef Rasmus Søndergaard Johannesen.

Efterfølgende gik turen over til SMK Thy, hvor vi besøgte udstillingen 'Frøsamlerne' med værker af kunstnerne Michala Paludan, Anne-Mette Schulz & Søren Aagard.

Busturen var et samarbejde med Malt Air Residency, og med på turen var de to kunstnere Yo-E Ryou og Kyra Nijskens, som lige nu er i residency på Malt Air i Ebeltoft.

UnSea —— Process pt. 1: Collecting the Nets

From the first week, they caught my attention.

patterns, shapes and colors

I decided to collect them—not only from Ebeltoft's harbor but also from Grenaa's.
This journey involved talking to fishermen, visiting the ship recycling site, and exploring the "cemetery" of their internal parts—including mountains of nets.

Car conversations with Luis, Torben, Sofiia and Adam, who joined me in the search for more and more nets.

Grateful to everyone who helped and became part of this work from the very beginning. 🎣✨

UnSea —— Process pt. 2: Joining the Nets

There’s nothing I enjoy more than working outside the studio.
Involving people, listening to the conversations around me (most in Danish, of course—I couldn’t understand). People stop to watch. What might they be thinking? Some ask, "What are you doing?" Others don’t; others just pass by.

Changing an object’s context and arrangement.
Re-signifying it.

UnSea —— Process pt. 3: Installation (12.11.2024)

A team effort: 10 extra hands—Thomas, Lee, Adam, Tore, Kristian.
Getting to know people during the process—among themselves and with me. Involving them in decision-making:
"What do you think of this?"
"What if we do it like this?"
"Wow, this is heavy."

Not knowing how the final result will turn out is part of what I love about installations. What I imagine in my head might—or might not—come to life as I envisioned.

Grateful to everyone who helped me install these nets and embraced this crazy idea.
Who would've thought that one day a Colombian girl would end up hanging fishing nets on 200 square meters of The Red Lady’s façade?

On my birthday, I wanted to say thank you to everyone who gives me the opportunity to be heard, to be seen, who invites me to share my experience, who chooses my art as a gift to their beloved, who asks when the next exhibition is, who looks deep at my work, who believes and supports me. I am sincerely grateful to you.

The only thing I wish for my birthday is faith in myself, which is sorely lacking. Every day I get discouraged, although you may not think so.
Then I start working, and sometimes it starts to work a little bit, faith comes, and I enjoy the process and cry with happiness.

Painting is always with me, it covers all my time. I have completely surrounded myself with it, and I am very happy that I can do what I love.

On my birthday, I held an open house in my studio in Denmark, where I am currently in an art program in @maltfabrikken and I am happy to share photos with you :)

I decided to show the guests the process of my work, no big finished work, but a lot of little searches, quick and not-so-quick sketches of thoughts that I do every day. Here is everything I managed to do during these 2/3 weeks in the art residency @maltairofficial .

We raised some money from the sale of my works for a Ukrainian volunteer organization @parus_nadezhdy that helps children with cancer. But there are still some works left, so if you want to congratulate me, I offer to buy a work from a donation of 50 euros (all money goes to help).

The available works will be in the next post :)

I wish us all a quick victory. Glory to Ukraine!

I rarely post nowadays.
Because I am in an art residency in Denmark. This residency is part of the program of a large art center @maltfabrikken that hosts a huge number of cultural events. All this is to make it interesting for residents and visitors to stay in the city of Ebeltoft.

I work very hard, from 9:00 to 24:00, looking for new topics, new approaches, looking for myself. I was looking forward to this time when I have my huge studio.

I’m in a small town called Ebeltoft, by the sea. It reminds me of my hometown Odesa, but it’s also very different. It’s very quiet here.

The buildings here glow because there are transparent windows instead of walls. This transparency is felt in everything. People are bright, they smile at you. Everything is based on trust.

I appreciate this space.

I have a lot to tell you, but now I’m going to explore another city, Holstebro, so I’ll see you soon)

Я рідко зараз зʼявляюсь з постами.
Бо! все тому, що я в арт резиденції в Данії. Ця резиденція є частиною програми арт центру, де проходить величезна кількість культурних подій. Все це - для для того, щоб жителям і гостям було цікаво лишатись в цьому місті.

Я багато працюю, з 9:00 до 01:00, шукаю нові теми, нові підходи, шукаю себе. Я дуже чекала цього часу, коли маю свою величезну студію і можу працювати в тиші, наодинці.

Я в маленькому місті Ебельтофт, біля моря. Який нагадує мені моє рідне місто Одесу, але також дуже відрізняється від нього. Тут тихо.

Будівлі тут світяться, бо заміть стін тут вікна. Ця прозорість відчувається у всьому. Люди світлі, посміхаються тобі. Все на довірі.

Ціную цей простір.

Багато чого можу розказати, але зараз їду досліджувати ще одне місто Holstebro, тому до скорого)

I think the most important thing for an artist is to have space and time to experiment. To leave the comfort zone. The place where something unpredictable “can happen”.

So thankful to @maltfabrikken , @maltairofficial for this opportunity!

Open studio, Malt AIR, Ebeltoft — Alfred. #2026

A year ago, for the artist talk that concluded my residency at Malt AIR, I decided not to talk. Instead, I chose to show a small diary through which I wanted to share how my mind works: the places I inhabit physically and the many others that cross my life emotionally. Parallel lives I hold here and elsewhere. The photos weren’t planned, but they were taken on the dates that appear there, whether or not they related to events taking place elsewhere on the same day.

It surprises me to realise this was a year ago. We’re forgetting things far too quickly. Every day a new headline, almost immediately overshadowed by the next, and I’m here trying to stop and cry, or stop and feel, or stop and live.

📌 New date: ARTIST TALK w. Soumya Sanker Bose (IND) Thursday the 18th of June 2026

We’re excited to welcome international artist and photographer @soumyasankarbose currently in residency at MALT AiR in Ebeltoft, for an evening at FotoGrafisk Værksted that opens the door into his expanding and haunting photographic world.

👀 What to expect:
Soumya Sankar Bose works with photography, text, video, and archival material to explore loss, vulnerability, and the stories that linger long after events have passed.
His work re-imagines memory and imagination, blurring together fact and fiction.

🌘 During the talk, Bose will share how his projects unfold: how a found diary becomes a map of psychological terrain; how archival traces turn into images; how places hold onto the echoes of those who once moved through them. His practice invites us to listen closely to the whispers, to the absences, to the fragile seams between fact and imagination.

📚 If you’re drawn to photobooks, expanded storytelling, and photography that asks difficult questions and lingers in the shadows of memory, this is an artist talk you won’t want to miss.
