Manar @manar438668 has been waiting for the medical care he desperately needs since February 2024, when a sniper’s bullet and shrapnel shattered the bones and damaged the nerves in his arm. He needs bone grafting and nerve surgery, but with that treatment unavailable in Gaza and his referral abroad still out of reach, he continues to live with debilitating pain while caring for his elderly parents and younger siblings. Manar is also a writer and witness, documenting the reality of life under genocide in his book, Gaza: Two Stories, One Reality. He has spent years putting these experiences into words; now he needs help getting the surgery, medicine, nourishment, and basic support necessary to heal. Please stand with Manar and help give him a chance to reclaim the life he has been forced to put on hold.

Manar @manar438668 has been living with a devastating arm injury since February 17, 2024, when a sniper’s bullet and shrapnel shattered his bones. He urgently needs bone grafting and nerve surgery, but the treatment he needs is unavailable in Gaza, and he remains trapped without access to the care he has been referred to receive abroad. As the eldest in his family, Manar is also responsible for his elderly parents and younger siblings while enduring constant pain, scarce medicine, inadequate food, and the harsh reality of life in a tent. Yet Manar is more than someone struggling to survive, he is a writer and witness who has documented life under genocide in his book, Gaza: Two Stories, One Reality. Please help Manar access the surgery, medicine, and nourishment he needs to heal and reclaim the life that was taken from him.

I studied creative arts and photography in college. I am an artist so I loved to experiment with different techniques.

This is a self portrait I took with a 4X5 camera. The negatives are four inches by five inches.

For this photo, I used slide film and cross processed it as negative film to give it a vibrant, blown out look.

Focus is another animal, with the 4X5 camera, this ain't your 35mm SLR. There are several different points to adjust focus, as you can tell by the photo.

I sat about six to eight feet from the camera lense. A 35mm SLR would not be able to achieve this shallow depth of field.

I sat a friend in my spot and focused on them, then I sat in place with a 15-20 ft shutter release that was my grandfather's 🥹

This is an editorial shot with very contrasty Rembrandt lighting. I don't really remember my set up, but I was probably using one tungsten light with no diffusion.
