Manchester Cider Club meets @balancetaproom in Manchester on the second Wednesday of each month. Tickets c/o @thecatintheglass

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Last season I harvested fruit from this magnificent pear tree and made perry, one of the drinks I am honoured to be presenting tonight at @manchestercider . Yet to be identified, I have this year submitted a leaf sample for DNA analysis to hopefully solve the mystery.

Such a special privilege to be invited to present our ciders last night at the one and only @manchestercider.

In front of a friendly crowd we shared all 5 of our bottled 2024s as well as some works in progress 2025s that still have a little bit of sugar to ferment out.

Was wonderful to share our cider and a bit of our story to such an engaged, kind, knowledgeable and switched-on audience and we’re so glad the ciders went down well. We’re especially grateful for the particular love shown to Foxwhelp, Bisquet and Triptych. (We’re also glad you agreed on which ones we reckon want a bit more time!)

Finally putting our ciders in front of a discerning audience was a big, daunting step, and we’re delighted with the reception and feedback they got. It’s really given us the push we need to get ourselves together and get the paperwork done so we can start selling.

We recognise the privilege of such a new producer being invited to speak at Manchester Cider Club - a club we’ve admired for years and which has inspired so many cider clubs, including our own @readingciderclub. We don’t take it lightly, and we’re so grateful to everyone who joined us.

"Our next Mcr Cider Club is on Thursday 13th November 7pm at Balance Brewery Taproom, 10 Sheffield St, Manchester M1 2ND - near Piccadilly Train Station.

This month, Manchester Cider Club is delighted to welcome Abaliget Garden Projects from Hungary.

Abaliget Garden Projects: Hungary’s Orchard & Perry-Cider Discovery

We’re heading somewhere a little different for our November tasting — all the way to southwest Hungary, where Abaliget Garden Projects is quietly crafting some of the most distinctive ciders and perries in Central Europe. The project is run by Ancha Gergely and her husband Csaba, who caught the cider bug while spending time in England and decided to bring that enthusiasm home. Since planting their first trees around 2018, they’ve built up a diverse orchard in the village of Abaliget, combining traditional Hungarian fruit varieties with English cider apples and pears for perry.

What makes Abaliget Garden Projects so exciting is the way they blend curiosity, craftsmanship, and respect for the land. Their orchard is a living experiment — a mix of old Hungarian apple varieties like Kanizsai and Húsvéti Rozmaring, classic English cider apples, and a growing number of heritage pear trees. Much of their fruit also comes from foraged sources: wild or roadside trees and long-abandoned gardens that have quietly thrived for decades. The result is fruit with a wonderful range of character, from bright and aromatic to rich and tannic, all reflecting the diverse landscape of rural Hungary.

Abaliget Garden Projects embodies what we love about aspirational cider: connection to place, respect for tradition, and a willingness to experiment. This November, we’ll raise a glass not only to great cider and perry, but also to the adventurous spirit that keeps our club tastings fresh and surprising. We can’t wait to welcome you to this Hungarian orchard adventure — and to share in some truly memorable bottles together!"

😍😍😍😍😍

It’s hard to imagine a time before Cask Club now, and quite frankly we don’t want to, cause that would mean no £3.50 pints of cask beer AND BiB cider on a Monday and a Tuesday 🥹

I mean just look at these pints of Crag and 20 Golden Treat from @rosscider 🌾🍏

We have have some beauts from @abbeydalebeers and @neptunebrewery on and some from @thornbridge and @blacklodgebrew waiting in the wings 🙌
