August is here and so is flooring! After weeks of ripping out thousands of floor staples and then another week of rest due to tendinitis from ripping out said staples, we have officially completed all demo at Pine Hollow.

Things tend to pick up speed from here. Trim, plumbing fixtures and bathroom vanities, kitchen appliances and lighting… we are getting so close to move in.

Something tells me it’s going to be a pretty special Fall around here. 🪜 🔨 🪟

DEMO CONTINUES — with the Kitchen 🛠️

This is the most layered portion of our renovation. The bones of the house are so good, but it felt like a reconfiguration of the kitchen would open up the flow and let us maximize the square footage.

Originally, the kitchen had both an island and peninsula, as well as eat-in space off on end and dining space off the other. A tall pantry closet hindered sight lines and the oven/cooktop in the island seemed like a safety hazard.

Our kitchen plan is to:
🛠️ remove the peninsula and pantry closet
📐 expand the island
👉🏽 relocate cooktop to wall; stack oven and microwave
☕️ convert eat-in kitchen to morning room/office

Demo is nearly done (just a few thousand floor staples to go 🙃) and framing is in. Electrical and plumbing are being rerouted over the next few days, and then we will be ready for drywall work.

Our woodsy retreat came at just the right time. Slept in, cooked in, and soaked in the coziest of vibes, just the two of us. Ohio is in its glory in October, aren’t we the luckiest to experience it? 🪵🍁 The ‘Bers are so so good to us. It only gets better from here, ya’ll!

Busy & blessed both feel like understatements for this past week. I’ve been living a life that 14 year old me dreamed of. In 2021, my curiosity led me to walk into TENSPACE, meet Stacy and to become a returning patron of the TENSPACE experience. I started working as a show guide, sharing the TENSPACE experience in Columbus and now I am helping manage the TENSPACE x Nature Made Wellness Experience in New York.

Huge special thanks to Stacy, Rachel and Amanda for the opportunity. Words cannot express my gratitude. I stand in awe of you ladies and what you have accomplished thus far and what you will continue to accomplish. Thank you a million times over.

Travel Diaries — Edinburgh, Day 2 🏰

There are endless cozy corners of coffee shops to curl up in across this town. We chose Burr & Co to open our second day in Edinburgh and then hopped over to the Palace at Holyrood House for a self-guided tour, including climbing the turret stairs to Mary Queen of Scots chambers and wandering the ruins of the Abbey. No pictures were allowed inside as it is a working palace… so now you have the perfect excuse to book your tickets to Scotland, you need to see Holyrood for yourself!!

Nearly every local we asked for recommendations pointed us toward the @scottishnationalportrait — I am so glad we took the advice. Stunningly surprised by the Van Gogh, Sargent, Monet and Degas in the Impressionism rooms doesn’t begin to describe the feeling. And The Three Graces sculpture?? I was in heaven.

We tucked into another coffee (obviously) at Waterstones and enjoyed a view of the castle, and then had just enough time before our train to the Highlands to sneak in a wee mosey through tranquil and idyllic Dean Village.

Edinburgh, you were enchanting. ✨

Travel Diaries — Edinburgh Day 1 🏰

Fell a wee bit in love with Scotland. Edinburgh was everything it promised — mysterious and romantic, discovery and delight around every winding street and cobbled path.

We spent our first day focused on Old Town. The castle tour was worth every pound, and the surprise whisky tastings there gave this lightweight a bit more than a “wee glow” as the locals say. But they made a scotch girl outta me nonetheless.

We made our own tartan tweed bags with @islanderukltd and paid a visit to Greyfriar’s Bobby and Tom Riddle’s grave (Harry Potter fans, you get me). The Scots know how to drink, but they know how to eat, too… the venison was 🤯

A few coffee stops along the way helped us beat the jet lag and put 20k+ steps on our shoes. Clouds and rain in the morning turned into a gorgeous sunset as we waked the Vennel Steps, capturing the perfect golden hour moments of the castle. Day 1 — it was all a dream ☁️
