@mandiptalkspredators Collin Gosselin bravely shares about the abuse he suffered as a child and how it was pathologized and weaponized against him in his new book, In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood.

He talked about the importance of bystanders and onlookers and their role in helping to save children on Jay Shetty’s podcast this week. As I’ve said many times before, stop minding your own business when it comes to children and their welfare. If you suspect abuse, foul play, or something just seems concerning to you, make a call to your local child advocacy center, or if you are in community with them, call the school. Administrators, teachers, and counselors are mandated reporters trained to handle these matters. You can always do so anonymously if you must.

Kids lives depend upon it.

Respectfully… If your husband or anyone you know crosses the line with a minor, don’t listen to the noise, rationalization, or justifications. The only thing to do is walk.

Secondly, never allow a church, a school, or any other institution or organization to preside over a criminal matter. If a child has been violated, the FIRST place you go is a child advocacy center. They will take it from there.

“We handle our own matters” is akin to silence, coverups, further traumatization, and guaranteed repeat offenders. Children over church, always.

“My child knows not to talk to strangers.”

Great.

But what does a stranger actually look like online?

No face.
No real name.
A funny username.
The same games.
The same music.
The same interests.

And after three weeks of chatting?

They don't feel like a stranger anymore.

That's one of the problems with online grooming. It doesn't always begin with someone obviously dangerous. It can begin with a shared interest, a game, a compliment, a joke or a conversation that feels completely normal.

So don't just teach children:

❌ “Don't talk to strangers.”

Teach them:

✅ “Don't assume someone is safe just because they don't feel like a stranger.”

Online safety isn't about teaching children to be scared of everyone.

It's about helping them recognise when something doesn't feel right, and knowing they can come to you without being judged.

A Dutch eyewear chain just became the first retailer to pull Meta's smart glasses from sale.

@hansandersnl removed the Ray-Ban Meta glasses from over 400 stores across the Netherlands and Belgium this week. Their reason? The same concern I have been raising since these things launched: covert recording.

These glasses look almost identical to normal Ray-Bans. Yes, there is a tiny light when recording. But in a busy playground, at a sports day, in a swimming pool changing area, who is going to notice?

I spent 8 years analysing evidence in child abuse cases. I know what happens when technology makes it easier to capture images of children without their knowledge. These glasses lower the barrier. They make covert filming look like checking the time.

The Dutch consumer group Consumentenbond has given Meta until 13 October to redesign the glasses to comply with privacy law. The Dutch parliament is calling for a ban. Anti-abuse group Offlimits is urging Meta to pull them voluntarily.

Meanwhile, 4.2 million AI glasses shipped in the first half of 2026. Meta owns 81% of that market.

One retailer took a stand. I hope many more follow.

Kids' gaming age checks: 3 of 4 big platforms rely on a child typing in their own age, says Australia's regulator. The eSafety Commissioner reviewed @fortnite , @minecraft , @steamgamingofficial and @roblox . One platform took 18.5 hours to review a report of child abuse material.

In the cyber world, we never trust, always verify. These platforms are still doing the opposite.
