The Last Page article from our summer print issue features a public artwork created by brooke smiley during her Green Box artist residency.

José Antonio Arellano writes, “‘EARTH.SPEAKS’ ámanikyatumɵ’ɵvi or ‘Resting Hand’ sits in Green Mountain Falls, Colorado. Comprising five Superadobe benches bisected by Fountain Creek, the work inverts the propositions of the canonical Land Art of the 1970s. Where Robert Smithson built at a scale that eclipses the human body on land long treated as empty, brooke smiley, an Osage artist, created with the human body in mind on land she acknowledged as inhabited.”

“Combining the Superadobe practice she learned from CalEarth and the multiple somatic practices in which she is certified, smiley worked with local residents to construct the benches using the local soil. Drawing attention to their bodies as they worked, smiley guided the residents’ awareness to the interaction between their presence and the site.”

☀️ Summer yoga is here! ☀️

Join me Tuesdays & Thursdays at 9 AM at the Earth Benches near Joyland in Green Mountain Falls.

Created by indigenous artist Brooke Smiley, @many__herds_____ , and part of all the amazing offerings curated by @greenboxarts , this beautiful gathering space feels like a love letter to the land and community. Surrounded by mountain air, whispering pines, and the sounds of summer, it’s one of my favorite places to practice!

We’ll move, breathe, and connect with ourselves, each other, and the natural world around us.

All bodies are welcome.

DM me for a pin or directions and come start your morning with us. 🌿✨

Free to all members as part of our Regathering event May 29th:

An experiential session with brooke smiley, an artist and somatic movement educator living in California, U.S., and working from indigenous, land-based, social justice, and Body-Mind Centering® perspectives.

RSVP Now: https://community.bmcassociation.org/spaces/23446187/
Learn more: https://linktr.ee/bmcassociation

The Regathering event is a way to rekindle interest in the rich and varied offerings from the previous year’s 3-day event, Liaisons in this case. We also embrace this year’s Regathering to engage together around the theme of Ecology. Not only is ecology the theme of our upcoming 3-day online event (October 2-4, 2026), ecology is a reliably fertile framework for considering questions of how we relate to each other and our environment, equally relevant at the micro and macro levels, and in the realms of the biological, psychophysical, and metaphorical.

Last year, we partnered with artists to help bring to life 20 artist-led experiments that use technology to create, present, distribute and preserve new works of performance. Here is an update on some of their work!
