Today marks the final day of our 8-week Climate Fellowship. It’s been a truly transformative journey of collaboration, leadership, and bold solutions. We can’t wait to see the continued impact these founders will make on the world 🌎

Meet the 10 RISD finalists shortlisted in the Sustainable Markets Initiative’s global Terra Carta Design Lab competition, which seeks student-led, high-impact solutions to the climate and biodiversity crisis.

Along with RISD, this year the competition has been run in conjunction with Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation (UAE), National Institute of Design Ahmedabad (India) and the Royal College of Art (UK).

2: FutureYard app increases native biodiversity in green spaces.

3: Map Collective provides a software solution for corporate and government sustainability and supply chain teams to automate supply chain transparency.

4: Hoppi transforms brewery waste into 100% biodegradable, nontoxic toys.

5: SHAPESHFT uses discarded mixed plastics to create a usable artistic medium for producing public art, sculptures and research materials.

6: Shellf Life transforms discarded mollusk shells into a biomaterial.

7: Soilless reduces food waste with an affordable, sustainable, indoor garden system.

8: Surplus cuts down on landfill waste with a consolidated logistics and resale platform for surplus construction materials.

9: Waste Harmonize Worlds explores biocements for construction and reducing demolition waste.

10: Wild Lives trail cameras and curricular support encourage youth to actively observe, explore and connect to local ecosystems.

Today, RISD announced its shortlisted finalists in the Sustainable Markets Initiative’s global Terra Carta Design Lab competition.

The Terra Carta Design Lab was launched by His Majesty King Charles III, then the Prince of Wales, and Sir Jony Ive in 2021 in partnership with the Royal College of Art in London. This year’s Design Lab took its search to a global stage, partnering with RISD, along with three other design schools from across the world: Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation (UAE); National Institute of Design Ahmedabad (India) and the Royal College of Art (UK).
