This vibe! From @maraacollective ‘s October Jam, where this very spirited audience member joined the performers. A treat. From Maraa: “Jiguru Academy works to bring the areyee to wider attention as a performing art. A percussion instrument rooted in the traditions of Karnataka’s Dalit communities, particularly the Chalavadi community that has carried it across generations, the areyee is closely tied to ritual and the worship of village deities. Its deep, continuous, drone-like sound, produced from the left side, is immersive and almost mesmerising, carrying within it the memory, heritage, and knowledge of a community”.

She is not asleep is a night walk, held in solidarity with survivors of sexual violence. On grounds of caste, class, religion, sexual violence continues to be a form of control and punishment, for anyone who dares to cross the boundaries of morality. Some forms of violence see the light of day, other kinds of violence continue to perpetuate in mundane and routine forms. She is not asleep is an invitation to walk together against all these forms of violence. Together, we will explore different experiences, moods and memories of the night, of violence, of solidarity and resistance. What comes to light in the darkness of the night? The intention is to encourage conversation across intersections of caste, class and sexuality, because the night sky looks different to each of us. We are only truly free, when each and every one of us is free.

Crossover is a 3 day immersive workshop on finding flow, gaze & visual design.

Objective of the workshop:

1) Foster conscious artists, storytellers, and filmmakers with cultural nuance and collaborative skills.
2) Encourage storytelling informed by empathy, scientific temperament, and awareness
of representation politics.
3) Critically explore the concept of “gaze” in understanding oneself, others, and popular
culture.
4) Examine the portrayal of marginalized characters and women in art and cinema.
5) Analyze the influence of White male gaze, Brahminical gaze, and ideology in visual
design, storytelling, and representation of gender, race, class, and caste.
6) Highlight the ethical and creative concerns in media production and storytelling.
7) Promote critical thinking about pedagogical questions in popular culture and media
ecology.
