It’s the birthday of one of my best friends of over 25 years, and she’s going to hate this song 🙃

She is numerous things and somehow excels at them all: mom, wife, behaviorist, counselor, school leader, the best friend to many, advocate for those with less power and resources, dog mom, animal rescuer who has saved countless dogs, athlete, music aficionado, organizer, and beyond.

We went to high school together, grew up together, made mistakes together, lived together, traveled together, and have been together in moments of great joy and darkness. We’ve taken ill-advised road trips courtesy of printed Mapquest directions before the days of smartphones, had drunken basement dance parties, had taco nights, had game nights, packed into her jeep for beach days, spent 12-hour sunburnt days playing volleyball every summer weekend, shared legspace on planes, endured friend group Festivuses, saved housemates from food poisoning; and yes, did cause unspeakable chaos in our younger years. I shared in her pandemic wedding; she helped me move after I broke off an engagement. We’ve fought and we’ve called each other in moments of emotional crisis. She is assuredly a sister of no blood relation.

I’ve taken a smattering of highly random photos of us from that range of colorful, ridiculous, fun years including one of me and her daughter Ziva- one of her many bright contributions to this world and unquestionably her best ✨ She is beautiful, whip smart, strong, committed in everything that she does, considerate, kind, fair, generous, forgiving, and diplomatic. Thanks for being born, Danielle, and providing hope to those who get to be around you ❤️

Last weekend my friends and I got to celebrate our first Friendsgiving since Covid began.

It’s still surreal to me that I’m privileged enough to not only own my own home, but to be able to share it with dear friends who can fill it with laughter and joy. It’s something I hope no one takes for granted.

Thanks to everyone who came out, I hope to see you all again next year. Love you all! #friendsgiving #home #friends
