They say that manifesting your dreams is the best way to become the person you were meant to be. ✨

With the announcement that @kinkybootsmusical is returning for a National Tour, I wanted to take the time to highlight exactly what this show has had not only in my creative career, but my personal life over these past seven years.

I never dreamed I’d be “Lola”. For the longest time I just wanted to be part of a project and show, whose message matched my own personal mission for what this world could be. For years, I studied. I trained. I learned every track imaginable, all the choreography, all the staging, just waiting for the day to get the phone call.

2022 really put things in into perspective. It was my first international booking, it was my first New York City headlining production, and I met the creative minds behind the musical that gave me this platform.

I’ve met so many wonderful people, folx who continue to cheer me on as the show travels from regional, community and professional theaters; with people coming back to me saying the same thing… “We wish we could have seen you…” ❤️

I wasn’t sure if I was ready to step back into the boots, but one thing is for damn certain. I’m going to fight like hell to get into the Tour. This show, in short, is my life story. The loss, the heartbreak, and the authenticity. It’s in my bones, and the glitter is in my DNA.

So. @daryl_roth , @kinkybootsmusical , @jammyprod , @theharveyfierstein and @cyndilauper… you’ve got a “Lola” who’s ready when you need her. 💋

I’ve been thinking long and hard about my journey becoming Marcelle… exactly what that meant and how that impacted the many relationships I had cultivated and nurtured throughout the years. 📚

When I started on this path, I was told that I wouldn’t make it in this industry; that I needed a stable career and to be rational. In spite of these odds, I pushed boundaries to make and pave room for myself in spaces where being different wasn’t the “normal”. ✨

I welcomed difficult and uncomfortable conversations, just to be able to get a glimpse into other’s perspectives and open doors for new possibilities. 🙌🏾

Being a queer trailblazer hasn’t been easy, and is often lonely. But the most rewarding part of this adventure has been finding out how much easier it’s been for others to walk similar paths to my own. 🫶🏾

I am unbelievably proud to be standing tall, and authentic in my identity, as a non-binary biPOC theatrical creative. And in case reintroductions are necessary… ☀️

Hi. I’m Marcelle LaBrecque, I’m non-binary and use they/them pronouns. 👋🏾🏳️‍⚧️

It’s nice to meet you. 😊
