Feeling grateful for the opportunity I had to meet amazing people, share memories to last a lifetime, and just be me! In one word this past weekend felt like HOME!

TY @elephantsandteamagazine and @yasurvivorsu for providing exactly what I needed time away from the everyday stress life brings to be surrounded by a community who just gets it!

Here’s my 2nd Photo Dump of my amazing experience at the @elephantsandteamagazine and @yasurvivorsu Young Adults Cancer Retreat in Pennsylvania!

I am so blessed and lucky to have been able to attend this event and meet so many incredible people, that I can call friends and hopefully see again at future retreats and programs - and maybe even at @cityofhope! But it was even more special because I got to meet others with ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia); and it’s so hard to find someone with the same leukemia as me - and crazy enough, I met someone who travels to my hospital and goes to the same floor and clinic as me!!! I can’t wait to run into @lasvegasary in-person! 😭💕 and the fact that three of my roommates were blood cancer patients (and two were ALL) was so unexpected and awesome!!

And also being able to talk to a community of blood cancer survivors and patients that understood my journey - and talking to others about their cancers and journeys - was so special. This community is so kind and loving; that it felt unreal and soooo special!

Thank you so much to everyone that put this incredible retreat together and can’t wait to hopefully attend next year! 💕💕💕

For those not tagged, please let me know so I can tag and follow yall! And this photo dump is a collection of photos that I took and that other campers took.

Here is a photo from a guided hike on our first full day of the retreat! We saw a huge eagles nest and a lot of caterpillars and centipedes.

And I loved passing this cabin on the way back and forth from the cabin I stayed at!

I feel like most of the campers saw me at the beading table for more of the retreat but I swear I did activities!! 😭🤣

Here’s a photo of everyone getting together with our super yellow shirts for the annual group photo!

And here’s the whole blood cancer group (I hope - I know some people left early or might have missed out) that attended the retreat this year!

And here’s more of my besties group from the retreat!

And another blood cancer group photo before we took off to the bus back to the airport.

We of course, all met up and hung out until it was time to boar

I had the COOLEST experience today in the Pittsburgh Airport! One of my goals for this year was to see one of my books in the wild. I’ve seen them in bookstores I knew they’d be in, but hadn’t just stumbled across one yet. Well thankfully I had a long wait for the airplane and walked into Hudson News “just to see”. I might have teared up when I found a copy of The Secret of the Old Clock right away.

It only got better when one of my new friends from Cancer Camp walked by and I asked her to take a picture. She then bought the store out (of their one copy 😃) and I got to sign it for her!

And THEN the bookseller said, “Oh and you also wrote The Mysterious Affair at Styles, right? Let me show you the post I sent my whole Facebook group about that book. I sold out of it right away.”

It was such a special way to end a great week at camp. My hands were shaking for the next half hour. It’s pretty cool being an author.

I had no idea how much I needed Young Cancer Camp in my life. I met new friends, became closer with old friends, and just had the absolute best time around amazing people the last few days. Thank you @elephantsandteamagazine and @yasurvivorsu for creating something so magical!

5ish crew with crazy flying deers for life! 🦌🦌🦌

This past weekend we honored Marci’s three year cancer-versary with a family (only missing Sister Kaya) hike on the Limber Pine Trail. We all wore blue (the color representing colorectal cancer) and hiked to raise awareness. Marci calls colon cancer the “least sexy kind” and we all tend to agree.
Marci has been incredibly brave, scared, upset, strong and AMAZING through this continuing journey and I am so VERY proud of her. She has now begun being a mentor and advocate for other colon cancer victims, trying to smooth the rocky trail for them just a bit as they fight their own battles.
Cancer has tested, strengthened, and brought focus to our family. We are all in this together and it’s an honor to fight the fight with our daughter, sister, and aunt. We love you, Marci! #lifeisbeautiful #stupidcancer #marcistrong #monsonfamily #feelingblessed

This community knows how to do hard things. That’s why we’re inviting 500 people across the country to climb with us on July 18.

Not because it’s easy. Because it matters.

Climb from anywhere. Help fund #ColorectalCancerResearch.

Colon Camp 💙🦋✨

What two things are true at the same time?
I can be happy and sad at the same time.
I can feel joy and grief at the same time.
I can grieve my former self while finding and experiencing who I’m meant to be.
I don’t recognized myself in the mirror but yet I feel most like myself than I ever have.
I can hate having this disease while being grateful for everything it’s given me :
Community
Stronger intuition
Learning to regulate my nervous system
Feeling everything
Deeper relationships
And so much more

Which will take over? The good feelings or the bad?
With all of the joy I seek, it overcomes the grief.
The grief is still there, like a scar from a surgery that won’t go away, but I can continue to nourish myself (and my grief/scars) with love, hope, and peace.
Cancer has solidified to me that this life is my own and I’m going to live it unapologetically.

Last weekend I spent 5 days with @fightcrc at @colonclub’s Colon Camp. I got to see friends I’ve met through Fight, meet friends I have online, and make new ones. Cancer survivors have a habit of hating small talk because we’re going through something so life altering that we want to get deep pretty quickly 😂 There was never a moment of feeling unwelcome or awkward. It’s like we all became friends within the ice breakers and I know they’re going to be life long relationships now.
Also, I cried every day and didn’t feel judged for it. It was like all of my emotions from maybe..holding things in or shielding someone from what really goes on…just all came out. I felt so safe being around people who just get it.
My carcinomies, thank you so much. You all inspire me and I’m honored to hear all of your stories.

We got to hear from other advocates, survivors, and care givers. We did a class on breath work. We got to ride an alpine coaster. We were treated to facials from one of my awesome nurses, Julie! We were gifted so much merch and were served delicious food for every meal. Seriously, we didn’t want for anything!

I cannot recommend Colon Camp enough for my fellow AYA survivors. If you’re interested, let me know and I can send you info. 💙✨

Happy book birthday to THE SECRET OF THE OLD CLOCK!! 🕰️💛

My third book in the Mini Mysteries series is here and hopefully on its way to delight young (and old) readers! I unbiasedly think it is such a fun book with great activities and a classic mystery.

If that’s not enough, my illustrator @ryanwheatcroft made the story EVEN BETTER with the happiest pages. You should see what he does with light! And characters. And settings. And tricky hiding of spyglasses. 🔍

I hope you love it as much as I do! I’m so honored to have my name on and words in my third book!! 👩‍🦰

The Secret of the Old Clock: A Nancy Drew Detective Story from @gibbssmithbooks is available now wherever books are sold!

And if you want a signed copy, come see me @kingsenglishbookshop on Saturday!
