The Championship is back 🇦🇺🏆

A special competition filled with special clubs.

And you’ll struggle to find a fixture where that rings truer than @sutherlandsharksfc vs @southmelbournefc.

Two very different clubs, both doing incredible things on and off the pitch in their own unique ways.

Today marked Sutherland Sharks’ first appearance in a national league competition, and what better team to host than the Australia Cup holders, South Melbourne.

I personally believe this is a fixture we should see plenty more of. I don’t see a bright future for Australian football unless ambitious clubs are able to compete at the highest level.

And in 2026, Sutherland Sharks vs South Melbourne is a fixture that warrants such a status.

It doesn’t feel real. Seeing South Melbourne equalize so late in the game and win on penalties, you couldn’t script it like this. That burst of energy from half of the stadium screaming in jubilation was the loudest I’ve experienced and felt the vibration bouncing through my eardrums and chest while I was trying to compose myself taking the photos.

Club legends would go on to say this is the biggest win for South under the circumstances they were in on the night.

I’m still processing everything.

2026 Hahn Australia Cup Final - SOUTH MELBOURNE vs Melbourne Victory

Part 1 of 2 | 10th of October 2026

Shot on both a Nikon D7100 and a D610 📸

A massive privilege to be pitchside for the biggest game in Australian club football, as South Melbourne became the first NPL side to lift the Australia Cup, beating Melbourne Victory on penalties.

Massive props to South Melbourne, and a big shoutout to their media team who have been nothing but fantastic to me during my time in the football space. Big love to them. And not to mention the amount of fans that rocked up, one of the best roars I’ve ever heard at a game when Mikkola scored 🫨

Tried some different types of shots here, I’ve never shot at ground level before at AAMI so it was cool to just go in with no pressure and have fun with it! See you all soon for Part 2 🙂
