Home by Marc Petrovic and Kari Russell-Pool as part of their Distilled Life Series for our current exhibition, Interpretations of Our Natural World. This stunning glass blown piece is 25”h x 10.5”w.

“The Distilled Life Series gathers the broader themes of the complexity of the lived experience and distillates them into a series of small vignettes. These are bottled up feelings: personal encapsulations that both capture moments of time and shout out messages in bottles. The series began as Marc’s, where he often used birds as metaphors for the human condition. The new collaborative work encompasses Kari’s examination of the games most of us learn to play in childhood. These games are themselves metaphors for the human condition, replete with homes, setbacks, pawns, winners and losers.” - Kari Russell-Pool

I think of joy as a flame. We are all temporary keepers of joy. My wish for you, is that you bask in the warmth of its flame when it is your turn. All too soon you may need to pass the flame onto someone else. Blown, hot sculpted, cold worked, fused, enameled, flame-worked, gilded glass.
