We had such a great time @sidewalkfilm fest! Seeing Eternal screen with some absolutely amazing shorts as part of the Black Lens Shorts: More than a Monolith was such an unbelievable honor. The shorts we screened with were truly on another level, and to have our small Alabama film programmed along side them is something we’ll never forget. It was great uniting with our Bham cast and crew, none of this would be possible without y’all and we are so grateful.

Let’s keep making cool shit.

Saturday, August 22nd, my film Animal Fighterz had the pleasure of being apart of the first film showcase hosted by my good friend @dmotproductions at @elevenproductions

I had a really great time getting to talk with, hear from, and be around local Alabama filmmakers. Going to these events really puts a battery in my back to create and make even more art/animations. In a way, it’s refreshing, if that makes sense. I say this to say, go create something and put it out into the world. It can take you to places and rooms you never thought you would be💙

This past week, I had the opportunity to attend “Premiere Night,” an inaugural local film showcase hosted at @elevenproductions, based in Birmingham, Alabama. The event brought together filmmakers, creatives, and supporters of the city’s growing film community. Spearheaded by filmmaker DeSean Motley @dmotproductions, the event was created to give young and emerging filmmakers an opportunity to put their work in front of a real audience, while also giving them space to speak on the ideas, motivations, and production behind their films. DeSean has continued to play an important role in Birmingham’s film scene, not only through his own work as a director, but by helping create more opportunities, resources, and access for the filmmakers coming behind him. Premiere Night was another extension of that work, highlighting local talent, connecting creatives with the community, and giving Birmingham filmmakers another platform for their stories to be seen and appreciated.

Joshua Jeffrey Miller imagines grief as a world suspended somewhere between death and release.

His new short, Eternal, follows a young man who wanders into purgatory in search of death and the waters of oblivion. What begins as an allegorical descent becomes a meditation on metaphysical belief, masculinity, and the ways men are taught to carry grief.

Created as a @univofalabama graduate project, Eternal was filmed in Tuscaloosa and Birmingham with a crew made up largely of UA students. The film stars Isaiah Pierce, Sara Burris, and Trey Holland.

After selections at the St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase and Chattanooga Film Festival, Eternal returns home later this month for three screenings in the Black Lens Shorts Showcase @sidewalkfilm festival:
• Wednesday, August 26 at 5:45 PM and 6:15 PM (@ Sidewalk Cinema)
• Saturday, August 29 at 12:30 PM (@ Carver Theatre)

Written and directed by @jjmillerphoto
Cinematography by @marcusjay_dp
Production design by @gabrielle_ceramics
