Traut eurem Blick. Oft beginnt genau dort das spannende Bild.

Morgen erscheint „Joachims Blick – Teil 2“ in meinem Newsletter.

A lampshade becomes a hat. An old kitchen becomes a film set. And a glance becomes the beginning of a story whose ending we don’t know.

For me, noir photography comes alive through this interplay: light that reveals something. Shadows that leave something unresolved. A little elegance, intrigue and humour.

This photograph was created during one of my workshops. There’s room to experiment. A spontaneous idea, an unusual object — and suddenly a scene takes on a character of its own. Trust your eye. That’s often where a compelling photograph begins.

Tomorrow, “Joachim’s Eye – Part 2” arrives in my newsletter. About photography, intuition and the courage to trust your own way of seeing.

Somewhere between light and concealment.

The fine strands break the face into fragments without taking away its presence. Her upward gaze meets the light, while the monochrome contrast reduces the scene to lines, shadows and expression.

What catches your eye first: the face, the light or the graphic lines?

Fine dark strands hang in front of her face and body, creating graphic vertical lines and fragmented shadows. The strong contrast, generous negative space and unusual composition give the photograph a mysterious, editorial character.

Maria. Licht. Linien. Sonst nichts.

NOIR • EMOTION • AESTHETICS
Workshop work with Maria.
For me, noir photography isn't simply about black and white and deep shadows. It is about reduction. Lines, light, attitude – and creating an image from just a few elements that stays with you.
That is exactly what my workshops are about: not simply placing a model in front of the camera, but learning how to see, how to direct, and how to develop your own visual language.
You can find my workshops and upcoming dates on my website – along with my newsletter featuring new projects, workshops and stories from my photography.
Maria. Light. Lines. Nothing else.

Salzburg. Getreidegasse.
Ein alter Türrahmen. Vorhandenes Licht.
Salzburg. Getreidegasse.
An old doorway. Available light. A presence.
Sometimes, that’s all you need.
Created during my latest photography workshop in the historic heart of Salzburg.
