At TAKATA, you train in small groups with Course Director Manlio Leggio’s direct, hands-on attention from day one through your Instructor Exam - a PADI Course Director and Silver Status Frequent Trainer with 20+ years across the Red Sea, Madagascar, Palau, and Mexico, teaching in English, Spanish, and Italian.

Nuestra pedagogía del cuidado comienza habitando el territorio. 🛶🌊🎨

Para hablar del manglar con la niñez, primero tuvimos que sumergirnos en él. En este Día Internacional para la Conservación del Ecosistema de Manglares, celebramos un proceso que va desde la exploración en kayak, las clases teóricas para saber de qué hablamos, hasta la libre expresión artística. Creemos firmemente que no se puede transmitir la importancia de un ecosistema sin antes estudiarlo, recorrerlo y escucharlo de cerca.

Nuestras actividades no son aisladas; forman parte de un modelo de crianza y cuidado en comunidad. Al llevar a las niñas y los niños a pintar el manglar, no solo compartimos técnicas de arte, sino que sembramos arraigo y ternura hacia la tierra que nos sostiene. Un manglar fuerte protege la costa, y una comunidad unida protege su futuro. 🌿✨

Este tejido colectivo es posible gracias a personas y proyectos que vibran en la misma sintonía de conservación y amor por la naturaleza.

Queremos dar un agradecimiento profundo a:

What an unforgettable two weeks with the GoEco teen crew! 🌊

From diving courses and fun dives to expedition trips ending with fresh homemade ceviche, they jumped headfirst into everything ocean and conservation.
Together, we explored Mayan ruins, got hands-on with coastal dune restoration, dove into coral monitoring and restoration activities, and toured our marine labs to see conservation in action. 🪸🌱

To the GoEco crew: thank you for your incredible spirit and trust. We’re going to miss your energy around Takata & MARES! Until next time! 💙🤿

Together with our @marescenter Research Team, we are proud to have contributed to the restoration of local reefs through more than 5,000 coral transplants—helping to rebuild habitats and strengthen the resilience of our marine ecosystems.

I made a dive map of the Yucutan but I can't decide which colour version is better...

The Yucutan has some of the most amazing diving in the world, particularly the extensive cave systems accessed through rainforest cenotes.

The Akumel is known for turtles, and Playa hosts bull sharks in winter. Cozumel is world-reknowned for it's drift diving, while Isla Mujeres can boast whale sharks encounters.

But there is a lot of bleaching and coral disease here too, which is causing localised extinction. Luckily, folks in Mahahual have coral nurseries and you can join GVI Mexico to learn about coral ecology and aid in conservation activities (not an ad I just used to work there xox)

Ever wondered what a day in the life of a marine biologist looks like on the Great Barrier Reef? 🐠

Meet Candela, our wonderful marine biologist, as she takes us behind the scenes on an Eye on the Reef survey – one of the key monitoring programs helping track the health of this incredible ecosystem.

Throughout the day, she records important data that helps scientists understand how the reef is responding to environmental pressures and changing conditions.

One of the key focuses is Drupella snail removal, a vital part of coral conservation. These small but destructive snails feed on live coral tissue, and when their numbers increase, they can cause significant damage to coral colonies. By carefully removing them, we can help reduce stress on the reef and support its natural recovery.

Programs like Eye on the Reef combine science, monitoring, and hands-on action to support reef health across the Great Barrier Reef 🪸

It’s a day filled with data, dedication, and a whole lot of ocean care 🧡

MAHAHUAL - Semaine 10
- Plantation des plantes du projet de Maëlie pour aider à ralentir l’érosion de la plage 🌱
- Sortie de snorkeling pour faire le suivi de la population des raies/oursins 🐚
- Knee-deep dans la sargasse pour le projet de Maya 😬
- Plongée de transplants de coraux avec une différente méthode et nettoyage de la pouponnière de coraux 🪸
- Sortie de clean up de la rivière Bermejo dans les mangroves avec plusieurs volontaires et un organisme d’ici 🚮
- Observation au microscope de trappes à oursins pour essayer de trouver des larves et aider à la repopulation 🔬
- Plein de fun avec la gang ici 💕🤩
