There's still time to see MAGIC WOODS! The exhibition is open Saturday, July 11 and Saturday, July 18, from 12–5 PM (or by appointment). We're lucky to have two paintings by the incredibly talented Margot Bird in the show. Pictured here is Jungle Helicopter with Tabby Buttons, a wonderful example of her playful figurative paintings, which often feature kittens in delightfully unexpected places. Magic Woods takes its title from the podcast of the same name by George Patrick Leal (who even stopped by to see the exhibition!). The stories follow talking animals as they shape-shift and time travel through magical worlds. When we began imagining a show centered on world-building and the ways the natural world grounds and connects us, Margot's paintings immediately came to mind. We especially loved seeing Jungle Helicopter with Tabby Buttons in conversation with @zaqlandsberg's F-16 wreckage installation in the woods just beyond the gallery. While we all construct our own realities, Margot's paintings offer a dreamy, playful oasis that we'd happily disappear into. If you're bopping around this weekend for @upstateartweekend, I invite you to visit MAGIC WOODS, a show I curated with @joshuasimpsonphoto in our studio and backyard in Wassaic. It has been such a joy to share the work of so many talented friends with everyone who attended the opening and has wandered through the show since. Just as meaningful has been the chance to open the doors to our new space that will always be my studio, but sometimes a gallery, a meeting space, a place to hold workshops, ideas, conversations, and friends.
