Some friendships started with a radio call-in, others with an improv class or an email at 12:15 returned 2 minutes later. Twenty years of stories, and the people are still the best part. ❤️

How did WE meet? Tell me your version below. 👇

In my conversation with @margotbisnow, she tells us what the shared (beautiful) thread woven through each entrepreneur’s story is: SOMEONE BELIEVED IN THEM 💙

Someone cheered them on through the UPS, the downs, and through every setback along the way.

What a great reminder—cheer on those we believe in and also remember to receive the love
and belief being offered to us 🙏

💌 Tag someone who has been that person for YOU - let them know you appreciate them 💙

She walked into room after room of high-achieving entrepreneurs and asked them all the same question.

How did you turn out this way?

And every single one gave her the exact same answer.

New episode just dropped - and what Margot Machol discovered is going to change how you lead your team, raise your kids, and think about your own role as someone who builds people up.

Here's what grabbed me most in this conversation:

Most leaders think they're supporting their people. But there are two very specific ways we accidentally kill the entrepreneurial mindset in the people we lead - and one of them is something we think is actually kind. (It's not.)

Margot also shares a decision-making framework she uses 100 times a day that helps anyone - risk-averse or not - start thinking about tradeoffs with clarity and confidence.

CLARATY is Currency. And this episode is loaded with it.

What if we stopped asking, “What grades did you get?” and started asking, “What makes you light up?” 💛

As parents, it’s so easy to get caught up in grades, university, careers and the pressure to “set them up for success”.

But what if we paused and asked a different question:

What gives my child joy?

My guest @margotbisnow , author of Raising an Entrepreneur: How to Help Your Children Achieve Their Dreams – 99 Stories from Families Who Did, shares the lessons she discovered from families who raised thriving entrepreneurs.

And one really matters: pay attention to your child. ❤️

Notice what they’re good at.
Notice what they love.
Notice what they could happily spend hours doing.

Because sometimes our children don’t need us to choose their path.

They need us to help them discover it.

💛 A must-listen for parents who want to support their kids without forcing the traditional path.

In this episode, I sit down with Margot Machol Bisnow, bestselling author of Raising an Entrepreneur and former commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission. Margot shares what she learned from interviewing successful entrepreneurs and their families about the experiences that helped them become confident, resilient, and willing to take risks.

One theme appeared again and again: these entrepreneurs had someone who believed in them. Rather than choosing their children’s passions for them, their parents supported what brought them joy, encouraged their hard work, and allowed them to experience failure as part of learning and growth.

Margot also shares stories from raising her own two sons, her difficult decision to walk away from her original publishing contract, and why parents must recognize that the path that worked for them may not be right for their children. We also discuss financial responsibility, perseverance, and the importance of giving children room to discover who they are.

Her advice to parents is simple but powerful: “See what gives your child joy, and then tell them how proud you are of how hard they’re working in that.”

New episode of Radiant Mom Rising is live 💛

Sometimes the thing your child loves most is exactly where they’ll learn who they are.

Not in a classroom.

Not from doing what they’re “supposed” to do.

But in the process of showing up, failing, trying again, and getting better.

That’s where grit is built.

That’s where confidence is built.

Encourage what lights them up.

Support the process, not just the outcome.

If you’ve been sitting on an idea… this chat with @MargotBisnow is your sign!

There’s never going to be a perfect time.

And no matter what you choose, guilt will try to follow.

So you might as well choose the path that excites you.

Start messy.

Ask for help.

Figure it out as you go.

You don’t need all the answers to begin.

She asked hundreds of entrepreneurs and their parents one question: How did you turn out this way?

They all gave her a version of the same answer.

Margot Machol Bisnow spent 20 years in government as the FTC Commissioner, staff director of the President's Council of Economic Advisers, then went and interviewed the families behind YouTube, Under Armour, TOMS, WordPress, and Geek Squad.

Half men, half women, every race, religion, income level, & background.

Here's what was most shocking. Almost none of the things we agonize over as parents showed up in her findings:
→ Two parents in the house? Didn't matter.
→ How much money the family had? Didn't matter.
→ Straight A's? Didn't matter (a lot of them weren't good students.)

Jake sat down with @margotbisnow to understand the tips on raising "successful kids".

What You'll Learn in This Episode:
-The one sentence nearly all 99 entrepreneurs said about their parents
-The 2 parenting mistakes that stop kids from becoming entrepreneurs
-"Rules on small things, freedom on big things"- the parenting structure behind resilient kids
-How to build grit and resilience in your kids (practical, not theoretical)
-Her surprising answer on the best business ideas for kids
-What she'd do differently raising her own kids
-The one finding across all 99 families that shocked her most

What made these kids turn into some of the most successful entrepreneurs in the world?

I asked Margot Machol Bisnow this exact question on the podcast this week.

She's the author of Raising an Entrepreneur: How to Help Your Children Achieve Their Dreams, and she spent years interviewing 99 wildly successful entrepreneurs, asking them how they turned out the way they did, and every single one of them gave her the same answer.

"I had someone who believed in me."

That's it.

That's the secret ingredient.

Not a special school, not a particular parenting style, not even a specific talent.

Just one person who saw something in them and said so, out loud, consistently.

In this episode we dive deeper into this idea, plus how to help your kids find what they're passionate about, some common parenting pitfalls to avoid, and other tips for helping your children achieve their dreams.

If you're raising a teen right now who feels unsure of themselves or like they haven't found their thing yet, this is your reminder that your belief in them might be doing more work than you realize.
