Now accepting belated birthday wishes! 🙂‍↔️😆

It was my first birthday with our baby, so do I turn one again? 😂 (I wish… and don’t wish that at the same time bc who wants to go through dental school twice? 😮‍💨🤪 #notme)

I really feel that life is *more* than just about me now. Having a baby brings joy and self-sacrifice, and the sacrifice makes me realize why postpartum depression is actually so real.

Ironically, I’m learning how to take care of my needs as I’m taking care of my baby. Put your seatbelt on and your oxygen mask before helping others, right?

I’m only recently realized that I need to ask myself, “Hey, what do you want to do?” That realization happened when my husband asked me (as the baby was fussing at a restaurant), “What do you want to do?”

Even though I’ve been asked that question before, it just hit me differently then. Maybe it’s because I’m learning how to ask for help around the house with the baby to our ever-helpful nannies (we’ve gone through a handful due to scheduling conflicts). I can want to do something and make it happen with other people’s help, too.

Raising a baby seems like starting a practice, and the other way around can be true too, I’m sure. I’m realizing that with starting any endeavor, starting anything is the *first half*, but maintaining it is a grueling and painfully-slow *second half* that will never end (until we die, I suppose 👀).

So hey, be nice to your mom because she went through so much for you. All my love and respect to #moms out there! Hang in there, I’m right there with you.

Today, In the Deep has its World Premiere at LA Shorts.

On a day like today, I can’t help but think about how rare a gift it has been to get here this way.

I’ve been quiet about my journey because I never needed the world to know.
But this moment didn’t arrive by accident.

I have been incredibly fortunate—blessed, really, and very, very lucky to have spent years side by side with some of the most masterful directors of our time.

Filmmakers like Joe Johnston, whose mastery of pacing and the architecture of a scene always begins and ends with the human at its center; Michael Mann, whose relentless pursuit of authenticity and precision makes you feel the life continuing beyond the frame; Spike Lee, whose fearless, singular voice and unwavering commitment to his point of view remind you that filmmaking is an act of courage.

And all of them, despite all the planning, made room for that unexpected, magical moment.

I watched every decision. Every performance. Every frame.

I lived inside their filmmaking worlds and hoped that something—even the smallest thing—would find its way into me.

I know they shaped how I see and how I listen.

And I know what they never stopped reaching for:

Something true.
